==DISCUSSION==

ELEVATED POLLUTION LEVELS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING.

THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE STRATEGY IN
COLLABORATION WITH NORTHERN HEALTH HAS ISSUED AN AIR QUALITY
ADVISORY FOR HOUSTON BECAUSE OF HIGH CONCENTRATIONS OF FINE
PARTICULATE MATTER THAT ARE EXPECTED TO PERSIST UNTIL TOMORROW. THIS
ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

PERSONS WITH CHRONIC UNDERLYING MEDICAL CONDITIONS SHOULD POSTPONE
STRENUOUS EXERCISE UNTIL THE ADVISORY IS LIFTED. STAYING INDOORS AND
IN AIR CONDITIONED SPACES HELPS TO REDUCE FINE PARTICULATE EXPOSURE.
EXPOSURE IS PARTICULARLY A CONCERN FOR INFANTS, THE ELDERLY AND
THOSE WHO HAVE DIABETES, AND LUNG OR HEART DISEASE.

RESTRICTIONS ON OPEN BURNING ARE NOW IN EFFECT FOR THE MORICE TIMBER
SUPPLY AREA UNTIL TUESDAY OCTOBER THE 10TH, AT 9:00 AM PDT.

FOR THE DURATION OF THIS ADVISORY THE USE OF WOOSTOVES IS PROHIBITED
WITHIN THE DISTRICT OF HOUSTON, UNLESS THE WOODSTOVE IS THE ONLY
SOURCE OF HEAT IN A DWELLING.

REAL-TIME AIR QUALITY OBSERVATIONS AND INFORMATION REGARDING THE
HEALTH EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION CAN BE FOUND AT WWW.BCAIRQUALITY.CA.

INDIVIDUALS MAY EXPERIENCE SYMPTOMS SUCH AS INCREASED COUGHING,
THROAT IRRITATION, HEADACHES OR SHORTNESS OF BREATH. CHILDREN,
SENIORS, AND THOSE WITH CARDIOVASCULAR OR LUNG DISEASE, SUCH AS
ASTHMA, ARE ESPECIALLY AT RISK.

PEOPLE WITH CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE CAN BE PARTICULARLY SENSITIVE TO
AIR POLLUTION. THEY WILL GENERALLY EXPERIENCE MORE SERIOUS HEALTH
EFFECTS AT LOWER LEVELS. POLLUTION CAN AGGRAVATE THE DISEASE LEADING
TO INCREASED MEDICATION USE, DOCTOR AND EMERGENCY ROOM VISITS, AND
HOSPITAL VISITS.
