FLOOD POTENTIAL IS CURRENTLY LOW FOR THE STATE OF ALASKA.

 
...HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS.................................

 
STRONG SOUTHWEST FLOW BROUGHT MOISTURE LADEN AIR INTO THE SOUTHERN
HALF OF THE STATE DURING THE BEGINNING OF THE LAST 7 DAY PERIOD.
MODERATE RAIN HIT PORTIONS OF COOK INLET AND KENAI PENINSULA WITH
A QUARTER TO HALF IN RAINFALL BY DECEMBER 2ND. BY THE 3RD HEAVY
RAIN ENTERED THE PANHANDLE WITH 1.5" TO 2.31" RECORDED FROM THE
NORTHEAST GULF COAST TO THE SOUTHERN END OF THE SOUTHEAST.

 
A RAPID COOL DOWN ACROSS THE STATE FOLLOWED THE STORM PASSAGE AS
NORTHWEST FLOW GRIPPED THE STATE. BY FRIDAY MORNING TWO TO SIX
INCHES OF SNOW FELL OVER A GREAT DEAL OF THE LOWLANDS OF
SOUTHCENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST ALASKA WITH A FOOT OR MORE IN THE
HIGHER ELEVATIONS. CURRENTLY IT APPEARS THAT THE SNOW WATER
EQUIVALENT MAYBE AT OR SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF
YEAR.

 
THE TOUGH AXIS IS PROJECTED TO REMAIN ESSENTIALLY OVER THE WESTERN
COAST THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK. THE TROUGH PATTERN HEADS
SLIGHTLY EAST OVER THE UP COMING WEEKEND OPENING THE DOOR FOR
COOLER AIR TO ENTER THE STATE. PRECIPITATION IN THE FORM OF RAIN
WILL LIKELY REACH THE LOWER ELEVATIONS OF THE SOUTHEAST EARLY IN
THE PERIOD THEN CONCENTRATE OVER THE WESTERN AND CENTRAL SECTIONS
IN THE FROZEN FORM BY EARLY NEXT WEEK.

ICE THICKNESS VALUES ARE RUNNING SLIGHTLY TO WELL BELOW NORMAL FOR
THE END OF NOVEMBER. TO FURTHER ILLUSTRATE A WARM BEGINNING TO
THIS EARLY WINTER... FREEZING DEGREE DAY TOTALS ARE WELL BELOW
NORMAL OVER THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE STATE WITH ONLY 50 PERCENT OF
AVERAGE.
