LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON, THURSDAY EVENING, AND THROUGH  
APPROXIMATELY MIDNIGHT, SCATTERED SHOWERS AND SOME ISOLATED  
THUNDERSTORMS MOVED EASTWARD ACROSS THE REGION. MOST RAINFALL  
AMOUNTS RANGED FROM ONE TO TWO TENTHS OF AN INCH. HOWEVER, UNDER  
SOME OF THE HEAVIER SHOWERS AND STORMS AMOUNTS ON THE ORDER OF  
ONE-HALF TO THREE-QUARTERS OF AN INCH WERE MORE COMMON. AROUND  
MIDNIGHT, FOG STARTED TO FORM ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS VALLEYS, AND  
CONTINUED TO EXPAND AS THE NIGHT PROGRESSED. THE INTERSTATE-81  
CORRIDOR FROM ROUGHLY CHRISTIANSBURG, VA TO MARION, VA, AS WELL  
AS, THE INTERSTATE-77 CORRIDOR FROM WYTHEVILLE, VA SOUTH TO AROUND  
THE NORTH CAROLINA BORDER, EXPERIENCED A LOT OF DENSE FOG. EARLY  
MORNING TEMPERATURES RANGED FROM THE LOW TO MID 50S ACROSS THE  
MOUNTAINS WITH UPPER 50S TO LOWER 60S OVER THE PIEDMONT.  
   
FORECAST SUMMARY
 
 
A COLD FRONT ENTERED THE REGION LATE YESTERDAY, STALLED, AND WILL  
RETURN NORTH DURING THE COURSE OF TODAY AS A WARM FRONT.  
SOUTHERLY FLOW WILL INCREASE ACROSS THE AREA AND ALLOW FOR MUCH  
WARMER AIR TO INFILTRATE THE REGION THROUGH SATURDAY. A COLD FRONT  
WILL APPROACH THE REGION SUNDAY, AND CROSS THE AREA MONDAY INTO  
TUESDAY. ANTICIPATE A TREND TOWARDS MORE SHOWERS AND STORMS AS THE  
FRONT DRAWS CLOSER AND THEN MOVES THROUGH. DRIER WEATHER IS  
EXPECTED FOR THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL  
BRING SHOWERS AND STORMS BACK INTO THE FORECAST BY THURSDAY.
