REGION/NORTHERN ROCKIES...  
   
..HEAVY SNOW POSSIBLE OVER PORTIONS OF THE UPPER GREAT LAKES
 
 
...HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE OVER PARTS OF THE PACIFIC  
NORTHWEST/NORTHERN CALIFORNIA...  
 
ARCTIC AIR WILL INFILTRATE MUCH OF THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN CONUS  
ONCE A COLD FRONT PASSES THROUGH THE EASTERN U.S. TONIGHT THROUGH  
FRIDAY. TEMPERATURES THIS WEEKEND WILL BE WELL BELOW NORMAL FROM  
THE OHIO VALLEY TO MAINE AND SOUTH TO THE MID-ATLANTIC. A FREEZE  
WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR MOST OF VIRGINIA AND NORTHERN NORTH  
CAROLINA AND A FREEZE WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR MOST OF MARYLAND,  
DELAWARE AND SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY. TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY  
SEVERELY DAMAGE OR KILL SENSITIVE VEGETATION LIKE VEGETABLE  
GARDENS. FURTHER SOUTH... A FEW SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL  
ACCOMPANY THE COLD FRONT AS IT MOVES FROM THE TENNESSEE VALLEY TO  
OFFSHORE THE SOUTHEAST COAST.  
 
SNOW, HEAVY AT TIMES, WILL PERSIST ACROSS THE UPPER GREAT LAKES,  
ESPECIALLY IN THE FAVORED DOWNWIND LOCATIONS DOWNWIND OF LAKE  
SUPERIOR AND NORTHERN LAKE MICHIGAN. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES AND  
WINTER STORM WARNINGS SPAN FROM PORTIONS OF NORTHERN MINNESOTA TO  
THE NORTHERN MITT OF MICHIGAN... WITH GALE WARNINGS FOR LAKES  
SUPERIOR, MICHIGAN AND HURON. NORTHERN MAINE WILL HAVE HAVE SNOW  
AND HAS WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES IN EFFECT.  
 
A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM AND SURFACE COLD FRONT WILL TRACK FROM THE  
PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND NORTHERN/CENTRAL CALIFORNIA THROUGH THE  
INTERMOUNTAIN WEST/ROCKIES AND INTO THE PLAINS. RAIN AND HIGHER  
ELEVATION SNOW WILL DEVELOP OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST WHILE  
SNOW/LOWER ELEVATION RAIN DEVELOPS OVER THE NORTHERN INTERMOUNTAIN  
REGION INTO PARTS OF THE NORTHERN ROCKIES THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING.  
ADDITIONALLY, RAIN WILL DEVELOP OVER NORTHERN/CENTRAL CALIFORNIA  
THAT WILL CONTINUE THROUGH FRIDAY BEGINNING TO WANE OVERNIGHT  
FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY.
