...A SLIGHT RISK OF FREEZING RAIN OVER PARTS OF SOUTHERN NEW  
ENGLAND...  
 
THE GREAT LAKES REGION AND THE NORTHEAST WILL CONTINUE TO BE COLD  
AND SNOWY THROUGH MIDWEEK AS UPPER-LEVEL ENERGY TRACKS THROUGH.  
WEST-NORTHWESTERLY WINDS WILL SET UP OVER THE OPEN WATERS AS A  
SLOW MOVING COLD FRONT PASSES THROUGH THE REGION; WHICH, WILL  
RESULT IN LAKE ENHANCED SNOWFALL TO THE FAVORED AREAS DOWNWIND.  
HEAVY SNOW IS FORECAST FOR MOST OF NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND WHERE  
AMOUNTS MAY CLOSE IN ON A FOOT. TRAVEL ACROSS THIS SECTOR OF THE  
COUNTRY WILL LIKELY BE HAZARDOUS. PLEASE REFER TO WPC'S WINTER  
WEATHER DISCUSSION FOR ADDITIONAL DETAILS (QPFHSD).  
 
WEAKENING UPPER-LEVEL ENERGY OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST WILL  
MIGRATE CONTINUE EASTWARD TO PARTS OF THE MIDDLE MISSISSIPPI  
VALLEY BY TUESDAY. ARCTIC AIR WILL SURGE SOUTHWARD AS SURFACE HIGH  
PRESSURE SLIDES SOUTHEAST INTO THE NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS. THE  
SYSTEM WILL PRODUCE COASTAL RAIN AND HIGHER ELEVATION SNOW OVER  
PARTS OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST WITH SNOW STREAMING INTO PART OF  
THE NORTHERN INTERMOUNTAIN REGION/GREAT BASIN THROUGH LATE  
CHRISTMAS EVENING. ADDITIONALLY, POCKETS OF RAIN/FREEZING RAIN  
WILL DEVELOP OVER PARTS OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ENDING OVERNIGHT  
MONDAY ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE PRECIPITATION. THE SNOW WILL  
EXPAND FROM PORTIONS OF THE NORTHERN/CENTRAL ROCKIES EASTWARD INTO  
THE CENTRAL/NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS TONIGHT INTO TUESDAY.  
 
RAIN WILL DEVELOP OVER PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHERN PLAINS AND GULF  
COAST STATES BY TUESDAY MORNING AS MOISTURE LIFTS NORTHWARD TOWARD  
A COLD FRONT SINKING SOUTHWARD.
