NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY...  
 
BITTER COLD TEMPERATURES FILTERING IN BEHIND A COLD FRONT WILL  
CONTINUE TO ALLOW A WINTRY MIX OF SNOW, SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN TO  
IMPACT PORTIONS OF SOUTH-CENTRAL INTO SOUTHEASTERN TEXAS AND  
LOUISIANA TODAY. A LIGHT WINTRY MIX OF SNOW, SLEET AND FREEZING  
RAIN IS ALSO EXPECTED TONIGHT ALONG THE CENTRAL GULF COAST. WHILE  
ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL TOTALS ARE EXPECTED TO BE LIGHT, UP TO AN INCH  
PERHAPS, SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN WILL LIKELY IMPACT TRAVEL FROM  
THE RIO GRANDE TO SAN ANTONIO, CORPUS CHRISTI AND EASTWARD INTO  
SOUTHERN LOUISIANA AND ALONG THE REMAINDER OF THE CENTRAL GULF  
COAST.  
 
FOR TEMPERATURES, THE GREATEST DEPARTURES FROM NORMAL WILL BE IN  
PLACE FROM PORTIONS OF THE LOWER MISSOURI VALLEY INTO THE OZARKS  
WHERE HIGHS MAY NOT BREAK SINGLE DIGIT READINGS TODAY. HIGHS ARE  
ONLY EXPECTED TO NEAR THE FREEZING MARK FOR PARTS OF CENTRAL TEXAS  
WITH THESE TEMPERATURES TRANSLATING INTO 20 TO 30+ DEGREES BELOW  
MID-JANUARY AVERAGES FROM TEXAS INTO THE NATION'S HEARTLAND. LIGHT  
SNOW AND COLDER TEMPERATURES WILL SPREAD EASTWARD FOR WEDNESDAY  
WITH ACCUMULATIONS FROM TENNESSEE/KENTUCKY INTO THE CENTRAL  
APPALACHIANS, NORTHERN MID-ATLANTIC AND NORTHEAST. COASTAL  
REDEVELOPMENT OF A STORM SYSTEM OFF OF THE NEW ENGLAND COAST ON  
WEDNESDAY IS EXPECTED TO AID IN PRODUCING MODERATE SNOW TOTALS FOR  
PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN NEW YORK INTO CENTRAL NEW ENGLAND, SOME OF  
WHICH COULD BE LOCALLY.  
 
WARMING TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED IN THE NORTHERN PLAINS BY  
WEDNESDAY WHERE HIGHS ARE FORECAST TO REACH THE 30S AND 40S GIVEN  
A CHANGE IN THE UPPER LEVEL FLOW AND THE INFILTRATION OF WARMER  
TEMPERATURES FROM THE WEST. A WEAKENING COLD FRONT WILL BRING  
LIGHT RAIN TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AND THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST TODAY,  
FOLLOWED BY A BRIEF BREAK TONIGHT FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER ROUND OF  
RAIN STARTING ON WEDNESDAY. MORE SUBSTANTIAL RAINFALL IS EXPECTED  
WITH THE SECOND ROUND OF PRECIPITATION STARTING WEDNESDAY WHICH  
WILL BRING AN END TO THE RELATIVELY DRY WEATHER SEEN OVER THE PAST  
TWO WEEKS.
