HAWAII EXTENDED FORECAST DISCUSSION
NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
810 AM EDT THU NOV 02 2017

VALID 00Z FRI NOV 03 2017 - 00Z FRI NOV 10 2017

AT THE START OF THE PERIOD A COMPACT HIGH TO THE NORTHEAST OF THE
STATE WILL PRODUCE EAST-SOUTHEAST WINDS NEAR THE BIG ISLAND AND
MORE SOUTHERLY WINDS OVER NORTHWESTERN ISLANDS. DURING THE NEXT
DAY OR SO EXPECT A MORE TYPICAL EASTERLY TRADE PATTERN TO DEVELOP
AS THE INITIAL HIGH DRIFTS WEST AND MORE DOMINANT HIGH PRESSURE
TRACKS SOUTH ALONG 150W LONGITUDE. EXPECT WINDS TO BE FAIRLY
BRISK FROM THE WEEKEND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK WITH SOME SLACKENING
POSSIBLE BY WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY AS THE HIGH WEAKENS. AT THAT TIME
THERE IS SOME MODEST GUIDANCE SPREAD FOR HOW MUCH THE SURFACE
GRADIENT RELAXES WITH THE LACK OF WELL DEFINED CLUSTERING
SUGGESTING A COMPROMISE APPROACH. SHOWERS THAT WILL BE PRIMARILY
THOUGH NOT EXCLUSIVELY FOCUSED OVER WINDWARD TERRAIN MAY SHOW SOME
LOCALIZED ENHANCEMENT INTO THE FIRST HALF OF THE WEEKEND IN THE
PRESENCE OF PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES NEAR OR ABOVE 1.50 INCHES.
RIDGING ALOFT SHOULD KEEP SUCH ACTIVITY FROM BEING WIDESPREAD
THOUGH. EXPECT PWATS TO DECLINE BELOW CLIMATOLOGICAL VALUES FOR
THE START OF THE WEEK AND REMAIN FAIRLY LOW THEREAFTER WHILE THE
UPPER RIDGE PERSISTS, LEADING TO GENERALLY LIGHT RAINFALL.
