SOUTHEASTERN TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA...  
 
* UNTIL 1145 PM EDT FRIDAY.  
 
* AT 1140 AM EDT, THOUGH THE LITTLE RIVER HAS BEGUN A STEADY  
RECESSION, ADDITIONAL SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE  
FRIDAY WHICH MAY PROLONG MINOR FLOODING WITHIN THE LITTLE  
RIVER VALLEY. IF HEAVY RAINFALL DOES NOT MATERIALIZE, THE  
LITTLE RIVER SHOULD FALL BACK WITHIN ITS BANKS BY SATURDAY.  
 
* MINOR FLOODING IS DEFINED AS FLOODING OF LOW-LYING AREAS NEXT  
TO STREAMS, FARMLAND, RECREATIONAL AREAS, GREENWAYS, AND BOAT  
ACCESS RAMPS. A FEW SECONDARY ROADS MAY BE FLOODED. CAUTION  
IS ADVISED ANYWHERE NEAR SUCH AREAS.  
 
* THE FOLLOWING STREAMGAUGE REMAINS ABOVE MINOR FLOOD STAGE:  
LITTLE RIVER AT MERRILL LANE 2 S PENROSE.  
CURRENT STAGE: 9.76 FEET AND FALLING SLOWLY.  
FORECAST: THE LITTLE RIVER WILL CONTINUE TO FALL TOWARDS 9.0  
EARLY FRIDAY EVENING. HOWEVER, ADDITIONAL RAINFALL IS  
POSSIBLE FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING WHICH MAY CAUSE THE  
LITTLE RIVER TO RISE ONCE AGAIN.  
ACTION STAGE: 7.5 FEET.  
MINOR FLOOD STAGE: 9.0 FEET.  
IMPACTS: AT 9.0 FEET, MINOR FLOOD STAGE CONTINUES. CASCADE  
LAKE RD. NEAR AND NORTH OF MERRILL LANE AT CRAB CREEK MAY HAVE UP  
TO 6 INCHES OF FLOODWATER INUNDATION AND MANY DITCHES AND SMALL  
STREAMS IN THE VICINITY WILL LIKELY BE FLOODING. OTHER ROADS  
WITHIN THE VICINITY OF THE LITTLE RIVER ARE LIKELY CLOSED DUE  
TO FLOODING.  
 
* SOME LOCATIONS THAT MAY EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE...  
DUPONT STATE FOREST, LITTLE RIVER IN TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, CEDAR  
MOUNTAIN AND PENROSE.  
 
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...  
 
MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN VEHICLES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS  
WATER-COVERED ROADWAYS, BRIDGES, OR LOW-LEVEL CROSSINGS. ONLY A FEW  
INCHES OF RAPIDLY FLOWING WATER CAN CARRY AWAY YOUR VEHICLE. IT IS  
NOT WORTH THE RISK. PLEASE TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.  
 
PLEASE PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO ROAD SIGNS INDICATING A FLOOD-PRONE  
AREA. OBEY ALL BARRICADES, EVEN IF WATER IS NOT CURRENTLY OVER THE  
ROAD. BARRICADES ARE IN PLACE FOR YOUR PROTECTION AND INDICATE AREAS  
WHERE FLOODING CAN OCCUR RAPIDLY AND WITHOUT WARNING OR WHERE  
ROADWAYS MAY REMAIN DAMAGED DUE TO PREVIOUS FLOODING.
