DISCUSSION

TRANSIT CONDITIONS FROM SUTWIK ISLAND TO KODIAK FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT:

SHELIKOF STRAIT ROUTE:
NW WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO BE STRONG THROUGH THE EVENING BEFORE
DIMINISHING THU MORNING. WAVES WILL ALSO SUBSIDE STARTING THU
MORNING AS THE SYSTEM EXITS THE AREA. CALMER WINDS AND LOWER SEAS
WILL PERSIST THROUGH MUCH OF THU BEFORE THE NEXT SYSTEM APPROACHES
THE AREA. THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING A SHIFT TO THE WINDS ACROSS THE
TRANSIT ROUTE, WITH NE WINDS TAKING OVER IN SHELIKOF STRAIT. IN
GENERAL, EXPECT LOWER SEAS WITH THE NEXT SYSTEM WITH THE EXCEPTION
OF SOUTHERN SHELIKOF STRAIT, WHERE THEY WILL PEAK AROUND 8 FT
EARLY FRI MORNING BEFORE SUBSIDING AGAIN. ON FRI, LOOK FOR
INCREASING SOUTHWEST WINDS TO NEAR 20 KT WITH PLENTY OF COLD AIR
AND SNOW SHOWERS MOVING BACK IN.

GULF OF ALASKA ROUTE:
THIS ROUTE WILL FEATURE SLIGHTLY CALMER WINDS AND LOWER SEAS
OVERALL OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. STRONG AND GUSTY NORTHWEST
WINDS TONIGHT WILL SLOWLY DIMINISH AS THEY BECOMING MORE WESTERLY
IN THE EARLY MORNING. SEAS WILL SUBSIDE ACROSS THE ROUTE STARTING
THU MORNING AS WELL. ANOTHER SYSTEM WILL SKIRT SOUTH OF THE AREA
LATE THU INTO FRI CAUSING THE WINDS TO SHIFT FROM SOUTHEAST DURING
THE DAY TO WESTERLY BY THU NIGHT. SEAS WILL REMAIN BETWEEN ABOUT
3 TO 6 FEET THU NIGHT INTO FRI BEFORE SLOWLY BUILDING ON FRI WITH
SOUTHWEST WINDS AND A LONGER FETCH.
