THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN JUNEAU HAS EXTENDED THE  
 
* FLOOD WARNING FOR...  
A GLACIER-DAMMED LAKE OUTBURST...  
AROUND THE MENDENHALL LAKE AND RIVER IN THE CENTRAL INNER CHANNELS...  
 
* UNTIL 700 PM AKDT SATURDAY.  
 
* AT 857 AM AKDT, RIVER GAUGE REPORTS INDICATE HIGH WATER DUE TO A  
GLACIER-DAMMED LAKE OUTBURST FLOOD ON THE MENDENHALL LAKE AND  
RIVER IS ON GOING. THE ADDED WATER FROM THE GLACIER-DAMMED LAKE  
INTO THE RIVER SYSTEM IS RESULTING IN CONTINUED HIGH WATER.  
 
* FOR MENDENHALL LAKE AND RIVER: AT 920 AM AKDT THE STAGE WAS 10.7  
FEET.  
MODERATE FLOOD STAGE IS 10.0 FEET.  
FORECAST:THE LAKE AND RIVER CRESTED AROUND 2 AM SATURDAY AT 11.5  
FEET AND IS CURRENTLY ON A DECREASING TREND. THE DECREASING TREND  
IS NOTABLY SLOWER THEN PREVIOUS EVENTS, AND THE RIVER IS NOW NOT  
FORECAST TO DROP BELOW MINOR FLOOD STAGE OF 9.0 FEET UNTIL ABOUT 5  
PM SATURDAY EVENING. IT IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO DECREASE AFTER  
THAT POINT.  
IMPACTS:AT 9.09 FEET WATER COVERS SKATERS CABIN ROAD BETWEEN  
SKATERS CABIN AND THE WEST GLACIER TRAILHEAD AND FLOWS INTO THE  
MENDENHALL CAMPGROUND. AT 9.4 FEET THERE WILL BE MINOR FLOODING OF  
YARDS ALONG VIEW DRIVE. AT 10 FEET MENDENHALL CAMPGROUND WILL HAVE  
UP TO 3 FEET OF WATER COVERING LOW AREAS AND 1.5 FEET OF WATER  
WILL BE OVER SKATERS CABIN ROAD. AT 10.5 FEET THERE WILL BE  
EXTENSIVE FLOODING OF THE MENDENHALL LAKE AREA AND UP TO 3 FEET OF  
WATER IN SOME YARDS ALONG VIEW DRIVE.

THE COLD WATER TEMPERATURES CAN INCREASE THE THREAT OF HYPOTHERMIA  
AND LOWER THE TIME REQUIRED TO CAUSE HYPOTHERMIA.
