...SIGNIFICANT FLOW EXPECTED IN THE WHITEWATER RIVER AND
COACHELLA STORM WATER CHANNEL BY THURSDAY MORNING...

...MAJOR RIVERS AND STREAMS ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TO HAVE
ELEVATED FLOWS THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY...

A PROLONGED PERIOD OF RAIN IS FORECAST OVER THE SAN BERNARDINO
AND RIVERSIDE COUNTY MOUNTAINS WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. RAIN TOTALS
OF 4 TO 8 INCHES ARE FORECAST IN THE MOUNTAINS THROUGH THURSDAY
NIGHT. HIGH SNOW LEVELS ABOVE 9,000 FEET WILL RESULT IN
ADDITIONAL RUNOFF FROM SNOW MELT. THE RAIN AND THE RUNOFF WILL
MAKE IT'S WAY INTO THE WHITEWATER RIVER WASH, AND LIKELY RESULT
IN SIGNIFICANT FLOWS THROUGH THE COACHELLA CANAL THURSDAY AND
FRIDAY.

THE FLOWS WILL REACH PALM SPRINGS AND THEN TRAVEL SOUTHWARD
THROUGH THE COACHELLA CANAL TO INDIO AND BEYOND. THE FAST FLOW
WILL INUNDATE LOW-WATER CROSSINGS AND CREATE DANGEROUS SWIFT-
WATER AREAS THROUGH THE VALLEY.

THE RAIN WILL DIMINISH THURSDAY NIGHT, BUT ELEVATED FLOWS WILL
CONTINUE THROUGH FRIDAY. RESIDENTS ALONG THE CANAL SHOULD BE
PREPARED FOR ROAD CLOSURES.

IN ADDITION TO THE COACHELLA VALLEY, WIDESPREAD, SIGNIFICANT
RAINFALL IN THE MOUNTAINS WILL BRING HIGHER FLOWS IN MOST RIVERS
AND STREAMS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. THE SANTA MARGARITA, SAN
DIEGO, AND EVEN THE MOJAVE RIVER WILL HAVE SIGNIFICANT FLOWS AND
MAY APPROACH FLOOD STAGE, SO ALL INTERESTS SHOULD MONITOR LATER
FORECASTS AS THIS STORM SYSTEM MOVES THROUGH.
