WEATHER SUMMARY FOR THE LOCAL TRI-STATE REGION

LOW PRESSURE WILL MOVE INTO THE GREAT LAKES TODAY INTO TONIGHT  
WITH AN ASSOCIATED WARM FRONT APPROACHING THE REGION FROM THE  
SOUTHWEST.  
 
AN INITIALLY STRONG HIGH PRESSURE AREA PROVIDING A COLD AIRMASS  
TO THE REGION WILL SLOWLY EXIT OFFSHORE THIS AFTERNOON, ALLOWING  
FOR A LIGHT SOUTHERLY FLOW TO DEVELOP. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED  
TO STAY MAINLY BELOW FREEZING THROUGH THE DAY.  
 
SNOW WILL BECOME LIKELY THIS AFTERNOON AND WILL THEN TRANSITION  
TO A WINTRY MIX TONIGHT. EVENTUALLY, THE WINTRY MIX WILL  
TRANSITION TO PLAIN RAIN LATER THIS EVENING ACROSS LONG ISLAND  
AND NEW YORK CITY AND SOON THEREAFTER THE SAME TRANSITION WILL  
TAKE PLACE FOR ADJACENT COASTAL SECTIONS WITH GREATER SOUTHERLY  
FLOW DEVELOPING. MORE INLAND SECTIONS CAN EXPECT A LONGER PERIOD  
OF BOTH SNOW AND THE WINTRY MIX AS WINDS THERE REMAIN LIGHTER.  
 
TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS EXPECTED TO RANGE FROM 1 TO 4 INCHES,  
LOWEST ACROSS EASTERN LONG ISLAND AND HIGHEST ACROSS WESTERN  
SECTIONS OF THE REGION WITHIN THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY, NORTHEAST  
NJ AND INTO NEW YORK CITY. TOTAL ICE ACCUMULATION WILL BE A GLAZE  
AND BELOW A TENTH OF AN INCH FORECAST.  
 
DRIER CONDITIONS FOLLOW FOR THURSDAY WITH A COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE.  
NOT MUCH COLD AIR MOVES IN BEHIND THE FRONT WITH HIGHS FORECAST TO  
ACTUALLY BE IN THE UPPER 40S TO LOWER 50S THURSDAY.
