..MONSOON TO MAINTAIN STRONG WINDS AND SEAS ACROSS PALAU AND YAP

A DEVELOPING MONSOON CIRCULATION LOCATED NORTH OF THE REPUBLIC OF
PALAU AND YAP AND WEST OF THE MARIANAS CONTINUES TO GENERATE STRONG
WINDS AND LARGE SEAS ALONG ITS PERIPHERY...ESPECIALLY ALONG ITS SOUTH
AND EAST SIDES. ALTHOUGH THE STRONGEST SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE
LOCATED NORTH OF BOTH KOROR AND YAP...STRONG MONSOONAL WESTERLY
WINDS BETWEEN 20 AND 30 KNOTS...OR 25 TO 35 MPH...HAVE BEEN OBSERVED
THROUGHOUT THE REGION TO AS FAR EAST AS 140E IN YAP STATE.
LIKEWISE...SEAS IN THESE AREAS HAVE BEEN MEASURED UP TO 15 FEET.

ON THE WATER...STRONG NEAR GALE-FORCE WESTERLY WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO
REMAIN HAZARDOUS FOR THE OPERATION OF SMALL CRAFT THROUGH TONIGHT.
INTER- ISLAND TRAVEL SHOULD BE POSTPONED UNTIL WEATHER CONDITIONS
IMPROVE. ALONG SHORE...SURF REMAINS AT DANGEROUS LEVELS OF 13 TO 15
FEET ESPECIALLY ALONG WEST FACING SHORES. SOME INUNDATION OF 1 TO 3
FEET CAN BE EXPECTED DURING THIS TIME. FORECAST MODELS SHOW THE
MONSOON DISTURBANCE CONTINUING TO MOVE NORTHWEST AND AWAY NEXT TWO
DAYS AND THIS WILL TURN THE SEAS AND WINDS MORE TO THE SOUTH AND
SOUTHWEST AS THEY SUBSIDE BELOW HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS LATER ON FRIDAY
AND SATURDAY.

RESIDENTS IN YAP STATE AND THE REPUBLIC OF PALAU SHOULD KEEP UP TO
DATE WITH THE LATEST FORECASTS AND ADVISORIES...AND HEED INSTRUCTIONS
FROM LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND WEATHER SERVICE OFFICES. FOR
