SQUANNACOOK RIVER AT WEST GROTON AFFECTING MIDDLESEX COUNTY  
 
RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL YESTERDAY HAS RESULTED IN SHARP RISES  
ON THE SQUANNACOOK ROVER AT WEST GROTON.  
 
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...  
 
SAFETY MESSAGE...A FLOOD STATEMENT PROVIDING THE LATEST INFORMATION  
IN THIS FLOOD EVENT WILL BE ISSUED WITHIN THE NEXT 8 HOURS, OR  
EARLIER IF NEEDED.  
 
SAFETY MESSAGE...DO NOT ALLOW CHILDREN TO PLAY NEAR SWOLLEN RIVERS,

* FROM THIS MORNING TO THIS EVENING...OR UNTIL THE WARNING IS  
CANCELLED.  
* AT 1:00 AM WEDNESDAY THE STAGE WAS 6.4 FEET.  
* FLOOD STAGE IS 7.0 FEET.  
* MINOR FLOODING IS FORECAST.  
* FORECAST...THE RIVER WILL RISE ABOVE FLOOD STAGE BY THIS MORNING  
AND CONTINUE TO RISE TO NEAR 7.1 FEET BY THIS MORNING. THE RIVER  
WILL FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE BY THIS AFTERNOON.  
* IMPACT...AT 7.5 FEET...MINOR FLOODING AFFECTS THE LOWEST LYING  
SECTIONS OF TOWNSEND, INCLUDING THE FARMLAND ALONG TURNPIKE AND  
BARKER HILL ROADS.
