FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MARQUETTE MI
603 AM EDT SUN AUG 18 2019

..SHOWERS MOVING WEST TO EAST ACROSS UPPER MICHIGAN TODAY

.DISCUSSION: AN AREA OF SHOWERS LIFTING INTO WESTERN UPPER
MICHIGAN THIS MORNING IS EXPECTED TO TRACK ACROSS THE AREA TODAY
AS SURFACE LOW PRESSURE LIFTS NORTHEAST. WHILE WIDESPREAD
PRECIPITATION LOOKS POSSIBLE, IF DRIER AIR WINDS OUT TODAY
PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS COULD BE REDUCED SIGNIFICANTLY. INCREASED
MOISTURE AHEAD OF THE LOW WILL KEEP RHS ELEVATED TODAY. WINDS OUT
OF THE SOUTHWEST AHEAD OF THE LOW WILL GUST UPWARDS OF 15 TO 25
MPH. AS THE FRONT PUSHES EAST TODAY, WINDS WILL BECOME WESTERLY
WITH GUSTS UP TO 20 MPH.

MONDAY AND TUESDAY LOOK TO BE INTERESTING DAYS SETTING UP ON THE
HORIZON, DEPENDING ON HOW PRECIPITATION PANS OUT TODAY. MONDAY
LOOKS VERY DRY AND WARM, WITH GUSTY SOUTHWEST WINDS DEVELOPING AS
HIGH PRESSURE MOVES ACROSS WISCONSIN AND LOWER MICHIGAN. GIVEN THE
MAGNITUDE OF THE DRY AIR EXPECTED TO ADVECT INTO THE REGION AND
MIX-DOWN THROUGHOUT THE DAY, RHS COULD DROP INTO THE UPPER 20 TO
LOWER 30% RANGE, ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE WEST. TUESDAY ATTENTION
TURNS TO A COLD FRONT APPROACHING FROM THE NORTHWEST, TYPICALLY A
CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER PATTERN WE OBSERVED DURING THE SPRINGTIME.
CURRENTLY THE FORECAST RHS AHEAD OF THE FRONT ARE IN THE 40%
RANGE, BUT IF THE FRONT DOES SLOW DOWN DRIER CONDITIONS COULD
PREVAIL, ALONG WITH BREEZY SOUTHWEST WINDS AND WARM CONDITIONS.
THE FRONT WILL BRING ANOTHER CHANCE FOR PRECIPITATION, THEN WE
TURN SHARPLY COOLER AND DRY FOR THE MIDDLE AND END OF THE WEEK.
