FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MARQUETTE MI
432 AM EDT TUE MAY 21 2024

...SOAKING RAINFALL AND A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT,
WINDY WEDNESDAY...

.DISCUSSION: AN UNUSUALLY STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM PASSING CLOSE TO
THE WESTERN UP WILL CAUSE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS BEGINNING SHORTLY
BEFORE NOON IN THE WEST AND OVERSPREADING THE UP BY THE EVENING. IN
ADDITION TO CHANCES OF THUNDER BETWEEN 30 AND 50 PERCENT ALL EVENING
AND OVERNIGHT, WIDESPREAD RAINFALL TOTALS ARE EXPECTED TO BE AROUND
0.75 INCH AND 1 INCH FOR ALL EXCEPT THE EASTERN UP WHERE BETWEEN A
QUARTER AND A HALF INCH OF RAIN IS EXPECTED AND ISLE ROYALE WHICH
COULD SEE BETWEEN 1 AND 2 INCHES OF RAIN. AS THE LOW LIFTS NORTH AND
A DRY SLOT PROJECTS OVER THE UP WEDNESDAY, A LOW LEVEL JET WILL CAUSE
WINDY CONDITIONS OVER ESPECIALLY THE WESTERN UP, WITH WIND GUSTS UP TO
40 MPH WITH A FEW GUSTS TO 50 MPH EXPECTED, MOST LIKELY OVER THE
KEWEENAW PENINSULA AND ISLE ROYALE. WIND GUSTSS OVER THE EASTERN UP
WILL BE CLOSER TO 30 MPH. WITH THE RECENT SOAKING RAIN AND LINGERING
CLOUD COVER, MINIMUM RHS ON WEDNESDAY ONLY FALL INTO THE 40 TO 50
PERCENT RANGE.
