..DROUGHT CONDITIONS CONTINUE TO IMPROVE WITH RECENT RAINFALL
 
 
SYNOPSIS...  
 
EXTREME DROUGHT /D3/ WAS ELIMINATED ACROSS THE REGION.  
 
SEVERE DROUGHT /D2/ EXTENDS FROM FAR SOUTHEAST MISSOURI EASTWARD  
INTO THE PURCHASE AREA OF WEST KENTUCKY.  
 
MODERATE DROUGHT /D1/ REMAINS ACROSS FAR WEST PARTS OF CARTER AND  
RIPLEY COUNTIES IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND EXTENDS FROM SOUTHEAST  
MISSOURI, FAR SOUTHERN ILLINOIS AND EAST ACROSS THE PURCHASE AREA  
OF WEST KENTUCKY.  
 
ABNORMALLY DRY /D0/ CONDITIONS FILL IN OTHER AREAS OF SOUTHEAST  
MISSOURI AND WEST KENTUCKY TO JUST EAST OF THE LAND BETWEEN THE  
LAKES AREA.  
 
IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE CUTOFF FOR PRECIPITATION  
INCORPORATED INTO THE WEEKLY DROUGHT MONITOR IS TUESDAY MORNING.  
THE WEEKLY DROUGHT MONITOR IS ISSUED THURSDAY MORNING.  
 
SUMMARY OF IMPACTS...  
 
SOIL MOISTURE CONDITIONS.  
TOPSOIL AND SUBSOIL CONDITIONS HAVE IMPROVED GREATLY WHERE RAIN  
HAS FALLEN OVER THE PAST WEEK.  
 
AGRICULTURAL IMPACTS.  
WHERE RAIN FELL, CROP CONDITIONS CONDITIONS TO IMPROVE. IN AREAS  
THAT REMAINED DRY, CROPS ARE STILL SHOWING SIGNS OF STRESS. WHILE  
SOME FARMERS ARE STILL HAY FEEDING, THERE ARE SIGNS OF PASTURE  
REGROWTH.  
 
FIRE DANGER IMPACTS.  
DUE TO RECENT RAINFALL, MANY BURN BANS HAVE BEEN LIFTED ACROSS THE  
REGION. ALWAYS CHECK WITH LOCAL OFFICIALS BEFORE BURNING.  
 
CLIMATE SUMMARY...  
SEVERAL ROUNDS OF SCATTERED SHOWERS AND STORMS MOVED ACROSS THE  
REGION PRODUCING WIDESPREAD 1 TO 2 INCH RAIN AMOUNTS. PARTS OF  
SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS AND SOUTHWEST INDIANA SAW STORMS TRAIN ACROSS  
THE SAME AREAS PRODUCING 2 TO 4 INCH AMOUNTS.  
 
 
PRECIPITATION/TEMPERATURE OUTLOOK...  
CHANCES OF SHOWERS AND STORMS RETURN NEXT WEEK AND WILL SPREAD  
EAST ACROSS THE REGION STARTING MONDAY NIGHT AND LAST THROUGH  
WEDNESDAY.  
 
THE 8 TO 14 DAY OUTLOOK FOR AUGUST 19 THROUGH 25 CALLS FOR BELOW  
NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND NORMAL PRECIPITATION. NORMAL PRECIPITATION  
DURING THIS TIME PERIOD IS BETWEEN THREE-QUARTERS OF AN INCH AND  
JUST UNDER ONE INCH.  
 
HYDROLOGIC SUMMARY AND OUTLOOK...  
STREAM FLOWS ON AREA RIVERS ARE RUNNING NORMAL TO ABOVE NORMAL DUE  
TO RECENT RAINFALL.  
 
NEXT ISSUANCE DATE...  
THIS PRODUCT WILL BE UPDATED WHEN A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN DROUGHT  
STATUS TAKES PLACE. THAT INCLUDES A CHANGE IN THE AREA COVERED BY  
SEVERE DROUGHT, AN INCREASE IN THE DROUGHT SEVERITY LEVEL, OR  
ERADICATION OF THE SEVERE DROUGHT. STATEMENTS MAY BE ISSUED MORE  
FREQUENTLY IF NECESSARY.
