COMMENTS: A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM FORECAST TO INTENSIFY OFF THE EAST  
COAST OF THE UNITED STATES TODAY IS EXPECTED TO TRACK NORTHWARD  
TOWARD EASTERN NOVA SCOTIA TONIGHT AND SATURDAY. THIS SYSTEM IS  
FORECAST TO BRING HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG GUSTY NORTHEAST WINDS TO  
THE HALIFAX AREA TONIGHT.  
 
PRECIPITATION...SNOW IS FORECAST TO BEGIN THIS EVENING AND  
ALTHOUGH IT MAY BE MIXED WITH RAIN AT TIMES AT ONSET THAT WILL  
LIKELY BE SHORT LIVED. BY MIDNIGHT THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BE  
HEAVY AT TIMES WITH THE HIGHEST SNOWFALL RATES OVERNIGHT. BY ABOUT  
0400 LOCAL SATURDAY 15 TO 20 CM ARE FORECAST. AT THAT TIME SNOW IS  
EXPECTED TO BEGIN MIXING WITH ICE PELLETS AND THE SNOW AND ICE  
PELLETS MIX CONTINUES SATURDAY MORNING BEFORE BEGINNING TO EASE  
EARLY SATURDAY AFTERNOON. A FURTHER 5 CM OF SNOW AND ICE PELLETS  
ARE FORECAST ON SATURDAY.  
 
WIND...STRONG EASTERLY WINDS ARE FORECAST TO DEVELOP THIS EVENING  
AHEAD OF THE LOW WITH GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 25 KNOTS BY 2000 LOCAL. AS  
THE LOW CONTINUES APPROACHING FROM THE SOUTH DURING THE NIGHT WINDS  
BACK TO MORE NORTHEAST AND FURTHER INCREASE TO GUSTING 35 KNOTS BY  
0200 SATURDAY. AS THE LOW PASSES BY TO THE EAST OF HALIFAX ON  
SATURDAY WINDS BACK TO THE NORTH THEN NORTHWEST WITH GUSTS EASING  
SLIGHTLY TO 30 KNOTS BY NOON TIME. THESE WINDS ARE FORECAST TO GUST  
IN EXCESS OF 25 KNOTS UNTIL SATURDAY EVENING WHEN THE LOW LEAVES  
THE REGION. THE ABOVE STRONG WINDS MAY PRODUCE REDUCED VISIBILITIES  
AT TIMES IN BLOWING SNOW.
