3. TECHNICAL DISCUSSION

A. ANALYSIS

FIONA IS MAKING LANDFALL IN EASTERN GUYSBOUROUGH COUNTY, NOVA SCOTIA.
FIONA WAS DECLARED POST-TROPICAL AT 03Z. HURRICANE FORCE GUSTS ARE
OCCURRING OVER EXPOSED AREAS THOUGHOUT NOVA SCOTIA AND PRINCE EDWARD
ISLAND. A RECONNAISSANCE FLIGHT OBSERVED A CENTRAL PRESSURE OF 934 MB
LAST EVENING. FIONA IS STARTING TO SLOW DOWN AS IT CONTINUES TO MERGE
WITH AN UPPER TROUGH. ALL OF THE CONVECTION IS DISPLACED WELL AWAY
FROM THE CENTRE. THERE HAS BEEN A BAND OF INTENSE RAINFALL WELL TO THE
WEST OF THE CENTRE OVER WESTERN NOVA SCOTIA. A BAND OF INTENSE
CONVECTION TO THE NORTH OF THE CENTRE HAS WEAKENED SUBSTANTIALLY OVER
THE LAST COUPLE HOURS. WATER VAPOUR IMAGERY SHOWS A LARGE AREA OF DRY
AIR INTRUSION WRAPPING AROUND THE CENTRE FROM THE SOUTH AND EAST.

B. PROGNOSTIC

FIONA SHOULD START TO WEAKEN AS IT BECOMES ABSORBED BY THE UPPER
TROUGH. FIONA'S SLOWER MOTION WILL CONTINUE OVER THE NEXT COUPLE DAYS
DUE TO BEING ABSORBED BY THE UPPER TROUGH. LITTLE CHANCE IS EXEPCTED
IN THE FORECAST TRACK. FIONA WILL TRACK NORTHEASTWARD ACROSS CAPE
BRETON THIS MORNING. ALL MODELS SHOW FIONA TRACKING OVER THE EASTERN
GULF OF ST. LAWRENCE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT AND OVER EASTERN
LABRADOR ON SUNDAY. THE STORM WILL THEN DISSIPATE OVER THE LABRADOR
SEA.
