3. TECHNICAL DISCUSSION

A. ANALYSIS

FIONA MADE LANDFALL BETWEEN CANSO AND GUYSBOROUGH, IN EASTERN
GUYSBOUROUGH COUNTY, NOVA SCOTIA BETWEN 07 AND 08Z. FIONA WAS
DECLARED POST-TROPICAL AT 03Z. HURRICANE FORCE GUSTS HAVE BEEN
OCCURRING OVER EXPOSED AREAS THOUGHOUT NOVA SCOTIA AND PRINCE EDWARD
ISLAND FOR SEVERAL HOURS. FIONA IS STARTING TO SLOW DOWN AS IT
CONTINUES TO MERGE WITH AN UPPER TROUGH. ALL OF THE CONVECTION IS
DISPLACED WELL AWAY FROM THE CENTRE. WATER VAPOUR IMAGERY SHOWS A
LARGE AREA OF DRY AIR INTRUSION WRAPPING AROUND THE CENTRE TO THE
NORTH, EAST AND WEST. THE CLOUD TOPS HAVE WARMED THROUGHOUT THE
ENTIRETY OF THE CYCLONE OUTSIDE OF THE DRY AIR INTRUSION.

B. PROGNOSTIC

FIONA WILL START TO WEAKEN AS IT BECOMES ABSORBED BY THE UPPER TROUGH.
FIONA'S SLOWER MOTION WILL CONTINUE OVER THE NEXT COUPLE DAYS DUE TO
BEING ABSORBED BY THE UPPER TROUGH. LITTLE CHANGE IS EXEPCTED IN THE
FORECAST TRACK. FIONA WILL TRACK NORTHEASTWARD ILES-DE-LA-MADELEINE
AND CAPE BRETON THIS MORNING. ALL MODELS SHOW FIONA TRACKING OVER THE
EASTERN GULF OF ST. LAWRENCE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT AND OVER
EASTERN LABRADOR ON SUNDAY. THE STORM WILL THEN DISSIPATE OVER THE
LABRADOR SEA.
