3. TECHNICAL DISCUSSION

A. ANALYSIS

POST-TROPICAL STORM FIONA IS NOW A LARGE AND POWERFUL MID-LATITUDE
SYSTEM. LOCAL GUSTS TO HURRCANE FORCE PERSIST FOR PARTS OF CAPE BRETON
ISLAND AND SOUTHWESTERN NEWFOUNDLAND, THE AREA OF HIGH CONVECTION HAS
SPREAD OUT AND IS VERY RAGGED, AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO ISOLATE A CLEAR
CENTRE. WIND RADII HAVE INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY OVER THE LAST 12
HOURS. A WIDE BAND OF STORM FORCE WINDS ARE EAST OF THE TRACK AND A
VERY LARGE AREA OF GALES SURROUND THE ENTIRE SYSTEM.

B. PROGNOSTIC

FIONA HAS FINISHED ITS TURN TO THE NORTHEAST NEAR THE ILES DE LA
MADALENE ISLANDS AND IS MOVING OFF TO THE NORTHEAST AND WILL SLOWLY
ACCELERATE TOWARDS SOUTHEAST LABRADOR. WHILE THIS IS HAPPENNING IT
WILL BEGIN TO INTERACT WITH AN UPPER TROUGH AND CURVE NORTHWARDS.
MODEL GUIDANCE IS GENERALLY VERY GOOD, AND THE TRACK IS EFFECTIVELY
UNCHANGED. THE STORM WILL THEN DISSIPATE OVER THE LABRADOR SEA ON
SUNDAY NIGHT.
