3. TECHNICAL DISCUSSION

A. ANALYSIS

POST-TROPICAL STORM FIONA IS WEAKENING AS IT MOVES NORTHEASTWARD
ACROSS THE NORTHEASTERN GULF OF ST. LAWRENCE. AN ASCAT PASS LAST
EVENING INDICATED A SIGNIFICANT AREA OF 45 KNOT WINDS EAST OF THE
CENTRE AND A LARGE AREA OF 40-45 KNOT WINDS DISPLACED WELL TO THE WEST
AND SOUTHWEST. THE INTENSITY HAS BEEN SET AT 50 KNOTS BASED ON THE
ASSUMPTION THAT THE STRONGEST WINDS HAVEN'T BEEN SAMPLED. THE
SATELLITE APPEARANCE OF FIONA LOOKS VERY RAGGED. THE OVERALL
APPREARANCE LOOKS UPPER TROUGHLIKE. HOWEVER, NEAR THE CENTRE, A SWIRL
CAN STILL BE SEEN.

B. PROGNOSTIC

FIONA WILL CONTINUE TO WEAKEN TODAY AS IT TRACKS ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN
QUEBEC AND SOUTHEASTERN LABRADOR. THE SYSTEM WILL DISSIPATE TONIGHT
OVER THE LABRADOR SEA.
