FOR ONTARIO AND THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION

DISCUSSION.  
 
A SIGNIFICANT LAKE EFFECT SNOW EVENT BEGAN WEDNESDAY WITH INTENSE  
SNOW SQUALLS SETTING UP OFF LAKE HURON AND GEORGIAN BAY, BRINGING  
LOCALLY HIGH SNOWFALL AMOUNTS AND BLOWING SNOW DUE TO VERY STRONG  
WINDS GUSTS. THE AREAS EAST OF LAKE HURON WERE PARTICULARLY HARD  
HIT, RESULTING IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS, VERY DIFFICULT TRAVEL WITH  
MULTIPLE ROAD CLOSURES AND SOME SCHOOL CLOSURES THURSDAY. INTENSE  
SNOW SQUALLS THEN DEVELOPED OFF OF LAKE SUPERIOR THURSDAY INTO THE  
SAULT STE. MARIE AREA.
