SNOWFALL WARNING
FOR THE MANITOBA LAKES
UPDATED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA
AT 4:18 P.M. CST WEDNESDAY 6 MARCH 2024.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
SNOWFALL WARNING FOR:
LAKE MANITOBA.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
==DISCUSSION==

SNOWFALL WITH TOTAL AMOUNTS OF 10 TO 20 CM IS EXPECTED.

WHEN: ONGOING INTO WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

HAZARDS: HEAVY SNOW AND, AT TIMES, GREATLY REDUCED VISIBILITIES

REMARKS: A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVING INTO SOUTHERN MANITOBA IS
PRODUCING AN ORGANIZED AREA OF ACCUMULATING SNOW. EMBEDDED WITHIN
THIS SYSTEM ARE BANDS OF INTENSE SNOW PRODUCTION. THESE BANDS WILL
PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL RATES, CAUSING VISIBILITIES TO DROP TO
NEAR ZERO AND SNOW TO PILE UP QUITE QUICKLY. SNOWFALL RATES AS HIGH
AS 3 TO 4 CENTIMETRES PER HOUR ARE POSSIBLE IN THE HEAVIEST BANDS
AND SNOWFALL TOTALS WILL VARY WIDELY DEPENDING ON THEIR LOCATION AND
THE DURATION ANY ONE LOCATION IS IMPACTED BY THEM.

STORM-TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS MAY VARY FROM NEAR 10 CM TO AS
HIGH AS 20 TO 25 CM IN AREAS THAT RECEIVE THE MOST INTENSE SNOW
BANDS.

THIS WILL BE A FAIRLY QUICK MOVING SYSTEM AND CONDITIONS WILL
IMPROVE ON THURSDAY.

PREPARE FOR QUICKLY CHANGING AND DETERIORATING TRAVEL CONDITIONS.
RAPIDLY ACCUMULATING SNOW COULD MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT OVER SOME
LOCATIONS. THERE MAY BE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC IN
URBAN AREAS. PUBLIC SAFETY CANADA ENCOURAGES EVERYONE TO MAKE AN
EMERGENCY PLAN AND GET AN EMERGENCY KIT WITH DRINKING WATER, FOOD,
MEDICINE, A FIRST-AID KIT AND A FLASHLIGHT. FOR INFORMATION ON
EMERGENCY PLANS AND KITS GO TO HTTPS://WWW.GETPREPARED.GC.CA/.
