WEATHER BULLETIN FOR 5 WING GOOSE BAY PREPARED BY THE JOINT
METEOROLOGICAL CENTRE AT 6:01 AM AST WEDNESDAY 20 NOVEMBER 2024.

LOCATION: 5 WING GOOSE BAY (CYYR)

TYPE: WIND WARNING IN EFFECT
DESCRIPTION: SURFACE WIND (MEAN OR GUST) GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO
30 KNOTS
VALID: UNTIL 21/1200Z (UNTIL 21/0800 AST)

TYPE: GUST SPREAD WARNING IN EFFECT
DESCRIPTION: GUST SPREAD OF 15 KNOTS OR GREATER
VALID: UNTIL 20/2400Z (UNTIL 20/2000 AST)

COMMENTS:

A PROLONGED PERIOD OF STRONG AND GUSTY NORTHEASTERLY WINDS CONTINUES
FOR 5 WING GOOSE BAY TODAY AS A LOW LEVEL JET WRAPPED AROUND A LARGE
LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM NEAR NOVA SCOTIA LINGERS OVER LABRADOR.

WIND GUSTS OUT OF THE NORTHEAST IN EXCESS OF 30 KNOTS ARE FORECAST
TO CONTINUE AT 5 WING UNTIL AT LEAST THURSDAY MORNING, AND COULD
POTENTIALLY EXTEND ANOTHER 6 TO 12 HOURS BEYOND THAT. THE GUST
SPREAD IS EXPECTED TO END LATER TODAY AS THE HIGHER WIND GUSTS
DIMINISH SOMEWHAT WITH A SLIGHT WEAKENING IN THE JET. THE GUST
SPREAD WARNING MAY ALSO NEED AN EXTENSION OF A FEW HOURS IF THE JET
DOES NOT WEAKEN AS QUICKLY AS CURRENTLY INDICATED.

ADDITIONALLY, THIS EVENT MAY END UP BEING INTERSPERSED WITH PERIODS
OF REDUCED WIND SPEED AT THE SURFACE DUE TO INDUCED STABILITY
PROVIDED BY THE COLD TEMPERATURES OF LAKE MELVILLE. IN SUCH A CASE,
A LOW LEVEL WIND SHEAR WARNING WOULD BE REQUIRED IF SURFACE WINDS
DROP BELOW 10 KNOTS. THIS IS DEEMED MOST LIKELY IN THE OVERNIGHT
HOURS WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

PLEASE MONITOR FUTURE BULLETIN UPDATES FOR DETAILS.

NEXT UPDATE: THIS BULLETIN WILL BE UPDATED BY 20/2200Z (20/1800 AST)
