SHORT TERM...TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT

FIRST OF TWO COLD
FRONTS PASSED THROUGH OUR CWA SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING WITH
RAIN, SNOW, AND GUSTY WINDS. THE SECOND COLD FRONT WAS PASSING
THROUGH WESTERN IDAHO AT 3 AM MST WITH MORE RAIN AND SNOW
SHOWERS, BUT ALSO LOWER SNOW LEVELS. THAT FRONT SHOULD REACH
THE WESTERN MAGIC VALLEY BY SUNRISE. AFTER THE SECOND FRONT THE
AIR WILL BE COLD ENOUGH FOR SNOW DOWN TO LOWEST VALLEY FLOORS
BUT MOST OF THE PCPN WILL BE OVER. HOWEVER, A LOT OF COLD
CUMULUS CAN BE SEEN ON SATELLITE ALONG AND OFF THE NORTHWEST
COAST ASSOCIATED WITH THE UPPER TROUGH, AND THAT AIR MASS WILL
SHIFT INLAND AND DEVELOP INSTABILITY SNOW SHOWERS IN OUR CWA
THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. GRAUPEL SHOWERS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE
BUT INSTABILITY DOESN'T LOOK QUITE STRONG ENOUGH FOR
THUNDERSTORMS. GRADUAL CLEARING WILL OCCUR TONIGHT AND TUESDAY
MORNING WILL BE QUITE COLD WITH LOW TEMPS 5 TO 15 ABOVE ZERO IN
THE MOUNTAINS TO MID 20S IN THE WARMEST VALLEYS. LATE TUESDAY AN
INTENSE STORM IN THE GULF OF ALASKA WILL SPREAD CLOUDS AND PCPN
INLAND, REACHING OUR WESTERN AND NORTHERN ZONES WEDNESDAY.
MODELS ALSO SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE SOUTHEAST WINDS WEDNESDAY.

LONG TERM...THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY

VERY MOIST SOUTHWEST
FLOW WILL CONTINUE TO STREAM PRECIPITATION ACROSS THE FORECAST
AREA THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. THE HIGHEST CHANCES WILL BE IN
NORTHEAST OR AND WEST-CENTRAL ID, WITH LOWER CHANCES CLOSER TO
THE NV BORDER. SOUTHERLY SURFACE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME
BREEZY TO WINDY DURING BOTH AFTERNOONS. TEMPERATURES WILL BE
MILD, ROUGHLY 10 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. SNOW LEVELS WILL BEGIN
AROUND 5000-6000 FT MSL THURSDAY, BUT WILL QUICKLY CLIMB TO
7500-8500 FT MSL BY THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND INTO FRIDAY. SEVERAL
INCHES OF SNOW CAN BE ANTICIPATED ON HIGH ELEVATIONS, WHEREAS
HEFTY RAINFALL TOTALS ARE EXPECTED FOR MOST MID AND LOW
ELEVATIONS. MODELS INDICATE A TROUGH AND ITS ASSOCIATED COLD
FRONT WILL FINALLY ARRIVE SATURDAY, WITH SHOWERY CONDITIONS
CONTINUING. SNOW LEVELS WILL LOWER TO ROUGHLY 3500-5000 FT MSL
BEHIND THE FRONT. WINDY CONDITIONS WILL RETURN BOTH AHEAD AND
BEHIND THE FRONT, MAINLY SATURDAY. A SECONDARY TROUGH IS
FORECAST TO ARRIVE SOMETIME MONDAY, WHICH WILL CONTINUE TO
SPREAD RAIN AND SNOW SHOWERS ACROSS THE AREA. TEMPERATURES
WILL TREND COLDER SUN/MON THAN PREVIOUS DAYS.
