SHORT TERM...TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT
A MOSTLY DRY
NORTHERLY FLOW ACCOMPANIED BY COLD TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE
THROUGH THE PERIOD. A BACK-DOOR COLD FRONT WILL REINFORCE THE
COLD AIR MASS ALREADY IN PLACE AS MODIFIED ARCTIC AIR SETTLES
IN FROM THE NORTH AND EAST BEHIND THE FRONT SUNDAY NIGHT. IT
WILL BE GENERALLY DRY ALONG THE FRONT, EXCEPT FOR A 15-30
PERCENT CHANCE OF LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS IN CENTRAL IDAHO LATE
SUNDAY, AND LESS THAN A 20 PERCENT CHANCE OF FLURRIES OR LIGHT
SNOW SHOWERS IN S-CENTRAL IDAHO ALONG A WIND CONVERGENCE ZONE AS
COLDER AIR PUSHES DOWN THE SNAKE PLAIN FROM EASTERN IDAHO LATE
SUNDAY NIGHT. SUB-ZERO LOW TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED IN THE
MOUNTAINS AND HIGHER ELEVATION BASINS, ESPECIALLY SUNDAY NIGHT.
LOWS IN THE VALLEYS WILL BE GENERALLY IN THE SINGLE DIGITS AND
TEENS. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL AVERAGE 5 TO 10 DEGREES BELOW
NORMAL.

LONG TERM...TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY
MODELS REMAIN IN
GENERALLY GOOD AGREEMENT WITH THE OVERALL PATTERN THROUGH
MIDWEEK. A DRY NORTH-NORTHWEST FLOW ALOFT WILL CONTINUE AS THE
OFFSHORE UPPER RIDGE EDGES TOWARD THE COAST. THE COLD
TEMPERATURE PERSIST, ALTHOUGH THERE IS A SLIGHT UPWARD TREND
TOWARD NORMAL BY THURSDAY. THERE IS SOME POTENTIAL FOR
STAGNANT/INVERSION CONDITIONS, BUT CONFIDENCE IS LOW. MODELS AND
ENSEMBLES ARE NOT IN AS GOOD AGREEMENT WITH REGARD TO AN UPPER
TROUGH LATE IN THE WEEK AS IT MOVES INTO THE AREA FROM BRITISH
COLUMBIA. THE FORECAST WILL CONTINUE TO DEPICT A 15 TO 30
PERCENT CHANCE OF SNOW, FAVORING THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS, FRIDAY
THROUGH SATURDAY. CURRENTLY, THE TROUGH LACKS A PACIFIC
MOISTURE TAP, SO SNOWFALL AMOUNTS ARE LIGHT. TEMPERATURES REMAIN
NEAR NORMAL.
