SHORT TERM...TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT

INSTABILITY RAIN
AND SNOW SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS AGAIN TODAY, BUT
WEAKER THAN YESTERDAY AS THE MAIN COASTAL UPPER LOW SEPARATES
INTO TWO WEAKER CENTERS AS IT MOVES INLAND. ONE CENTER WILL
MOVE TO WESTERN WYOMING LATER TODAY WHILE THE OTHER CENTER
DIGS SOUTHWARD INTO CALIFORNIA. THIS SHOULD LEAVE THE AIR MASS
OVER OUR CWA NOT AS UNSTABLE AS IT WAS YESTERDAY. WEDNESDAY
AND THURSDAY SHOULD GRADUALLY DRY OUT AS THE GENERAL UPPER
TROUGH OVER THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST WEAKENS FURTHER. TEMPERATURES
WILL SLOWLY MODERATE THROUGH THURSDAY WITH HIGHS ABOUT TWO
DEGREES WARMER EACH DAY WHILE LOWS HOLD STEADY IN THE UPPER
TEENS AND 20S IN THE MOUNTAINS AND MID 20S TO LOWER 30S IN THE
VALLEYS. GUSTY WEST WINDS WILL REACH 30 MPH THIS AFTERNOON IN
SOUTH-CENTRAL IDAHO, BUT ONLY 10 TO 15 MPH ELSEWHERE. LESS
WINDY WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.

LONG TERM...FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY

A LARGE RIDGE IS EXPECTED
TO CONTINUE BUILDING INTO THE NORTHWEST REGION THROUGH FRIDAY
AND THE WEEKEND, BRINGING IN DRY CONDITIONS AND INCREASINGLY
WARM DAYTIME TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 60S UNTIL SUNDAY.
NIGHTTIME TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE DROPPING INTO
THE UPPER 30S ACROSS THE AREA DURING THIS PERIOD. DAYTIME
TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO TREND TOWARD THE UPPER 60S THROUGH
MONDAY AND TUESDAY. SNOW LEVELS WILL GRADUALLY INCREASE IN THE
RANGE OF 4000-5000 FT THROUGH FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND, BEFORE
RISING TO AROUND 6000 FT EARLY NEXT WEEK. THE RIDGE AXIS IS
EXPECTED TO MOVE OUT EAST THROUGH SUNDAY AS A LONGWAVE TROUGH
MOVES IN ON MONDAY, FAVORING MOSTLY RAIN THROUGHOUT THE AREA AS
PROJECTED SNOW LEVELS ARE GENERALLY UNFAVORABLE FOR SNOWFALL.

FLOOD WARNINGS CONTINUE IN EASTERN OREGON FOR THE
SILVIES RIVER NEAR BURNS AND THE MALHEUR RIVER NEAR VALE
ALTHOUGH RIVER LEVELS CONTINUE TO FALL DUE TO COOLER WEATHER
AND REDUCED SNOWMELT. HOWEVER, EVEN THOUGH THE SILVIES IS
FORECAST TO RECEDE BELOW 12.0 FLOOD STAGE WEDNESDAY FLOODING
WILL CONTINUE DUE TO A BREACHED LEVEE. WARMER WEATHER NEXT
WEEKEND WILL INCREASE SNOWMELT AGAIN,AND AFTER BRIEFLY COOLING
NEXT TUESDAY LONGER RANGE MODELS SUGGEST A PROLONGED PERIOD OF
WARM WEATHER NEXT WEEK WITH EVEN MORE SNOWMELT.
