DISCUSSION
THE SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE TO WEAKEN AND DECREASE
IN COVERAGE DUE TO LOSS OF DAYTIME HEATING. HOWEVER, SOME
SHOWERS LINGER OVERNIGHT AS A SHORT WAVE UPPER TROUGH MOVES
SOUTHWARD THROUGH THE AREA, MAINLY IN SE OREGON AND FAR SW
IDAHO. SNOW LEVELS ARE LOW, AROUND 3500 FEET, SO LOCAL LIGHT
SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS ARE POSSIBLE. SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED TO
REDEVELOP ON WEDNESDAY, BUT MAINLY OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN. SNOW
LEVELS RISE TO AROUND 4000 FEET IN THE AFTERNOON. THERE IS ALSO
MARGINAL SUPPORT FOR AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS IN SW IDAHO, BUT
THE CHANCE IS LESS THAN 20 PERCENT. TEMPERATURES ON WEDNESDAY
WILL BE 5 TO 10 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. NO UPDATES.

AVIATION

OVERNIGHT. SCATTERED SNOW/GRAUPEL SHOWERS AND ISOLATED

PREV DISCUSSION

SHORT TERM...TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT...AN UPPER TROUGH
OVER THE PAC NW WILL KEEP UNSETTLED WEATHER OVER THE REGION
THROUGH THURSDAY. WHILE THE MAIN LOW AND ACCOMPANYING DYNAMICS
WILL TRACK ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN, DAYTIME INSTABILITY WILL
SUPPORT SCATTERED SHOWERS THROUGH THURSDAY. MARGINAL CONVECTIVE
PARAMETERS INDICATE A LOW CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS (~20%) EACH
AFTERNOON/EVENING ACROSS SW IDAHO. NORTHWEST FLOW WILL MIX DOWN
TO THE SURFACE DURING THE DAY RESULTING IN BREEZY WINDS AND
GUSTS OF 20 TO 30 MPH OUTSIDE OF SHELTERED VALLEYS. SNOW
LEVELS HOLD STEADY BETWEEN 3500-4500FT MSL. OVERALL
ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE LIGHT, THOUGH HEAVIER SHOWERS COULD BRING
1-3"/HR RATES RESULTING IN LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS IN THE
MOUNTAINS. TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN 5-10 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL
THROUGH THURSDAY.

LONG TERM...FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY...THE MEANDERING UPPER LEVEL
TROUGH THAT HAS BROUGHT COOL AND UNSETTLED WEATHER THIS WEEK
WILL BEGIN TO MOVE EAST ON FRIDAY. LINGERING MOUNTAIN SNOW
SHOWERS AND VALLEY RAIN SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE DAY ON
FRIDAY, WITH MINIMAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ABOVE ABOUT 4000-5000
FEET. A SLOW WARMING TREND WILL THEN TAKE HOLD THROUGH THE
WEEKEND AS A DEEP UPPER LEVEL RIDGE BUILDS ON SATURDAY.
TEMPERATURES WILL HIT THE LOW 60S-70S IN THE VALLEYS, WITH HIGHS
IN THE TREASURE VALLEY RETURNING TO THE LOW 70S ON SUNDAY!

DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEKEND, WITH ANOTHER
SHORTWAVE TROUGH LOOKING TO MOVE IN LATE MONDAY. THIS WILL COOL
TEMPERATURES SLIGHTLY AND BRING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS BACK
FOR MONDAY AFTERNOON-TUESDAY. LONG RANGE MODELS AND CPC 8-14 DAY
OUTLOOKS ARE HINTING AT A QUICK RETURN TO RIDGING BY TUESDAY
EVENING WITH ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND BELOW NORMAL
PRECIPITATION THROUGH THE END OF NEXT WEEK. MODEL AGREEMENT IN
THE FORECAST REMAINS EXCELLENT, WITH SOME VARIATION ON TIMING
AND LOCATION OF PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONDAY-TUESDAY SYSTEM.
