PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE COLUMBIA SC

..NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR 03/31/25 THUNDERSTORM WIND EVENT

MCCORMICK AND EDGEFIELD COUNTY THUNDERSTORM WIND EVENT

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM SURVEY TEAM DETERMINED THAT THE
ISOLATED WIND DAMAGE THAT OCCURRED ACROSS PARTS OF
CENTRAL/EASTERN MCCORMICK AND NORTHWEST EDGEFIELD COUNTIES WAS THE
RESULT OF THUNDERSTORM WINDS AND NOT A TORNADO.

WIND DAMAGE RESULTED IN ISOLATED SNAPPING AND UPROOTING OF TREES,
MAINLY BETWEEN AND PARALLEL TO US HIGHWAY 378 AND SC HIGHWAY 283.
THE DAMAGE BEGAN NEAR WHITETOWN RD AND NEW HOPE RD AROUND 328 PM,
WITH ADDITIONAL TREE DAMAGE FOUND FARTHER EAST ALONG HARMONY RD,
US FOREST SERVICE ROAD 602, LIBERTY HILL RD, GILCHRIST RD, AND
ENDING NEAR WALKER RD AROUND 338 PM.

EXTENSIVE AND CONSIDERABLE TREE DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF TROPICAL
STORM HELENE MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT FOR THE SURVEY TEAM TO LOCATE
NEWLY SNAPPED OR UPROOTED TREES AS A RESULT OF THIS THUNDERSTORM
EVENT.

NOTE:
THE INFORMATION IN THIS STATEMENT IS PRELIMINARY AND SUBJECT TO
CHANGE PENDING FINAL REVIEW OF THE EVENT AND PUBLICATION IN NWS
