AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHARLESTON SC
1244 AM EST SAT NOV 16 2024

SYNOPSIS

HIGH PRESSURE WILL PREVAIL THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK. A COLD
FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THE AREA MID WEEK.

NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/

EARLY THIS MORNING: VERY QUIET CONDITIONS THROUGH SUNRISE AS
HIGH PRESSURE PROVIDES PLENTY OF DRY AIR AND CLEAR SKIES ACROSS
THE REGION. THERE IS STILL SOME LINGERING NEAR SURFACE MOISTURE,
AND IT ISN'T OUT OF THE QUESTION TO SEE SOME SHALLOW GROUND FOG,
ESPECIALLY ACROSS INTERIOR SOUTHEAST GEORGIA. OTHERWISE, GOOD
RADIATIONAL COOLING CONDITIONS WILL PRODUCE LOW TEMPERATURES IN
THE LOW TO MID 40S.

SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH MONDAY/

DRY HIGH PRESSURE WILL EXPAND OVER THE AREA SATURDAY AND
SUNDAY, THEN MOVE OFFSHORE ON MONDAY. SEASONABLE TEMPS EXPECTED,
WITH HIGHS INCREASING A COUPLE DEGREES EACH DAY. STRONG
RADIATIONAL COOLING EXPECTED SATURDAY NIGHT, ALLOWING TEMPS TO
DIP INTO THE UPPER 30S FAR INLAND AND LOWER TO MIDDLE 40S CLOSER
TO THE COAST.

LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/

DRY HIGH PRESSURE WILL PERSIST INTO MONDAY NIGHT, THEN A FEW
SHORTWAVES WILL MOVE THROUGH TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY, ACCOMPANIED
BY SCATTERED SHOWERS. A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH
WEDNESDAY NIGHT. A DRASTIC DROP IN TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED,
WITH HIGHS IN THE MID/UPPER 70S TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY, DROPPING
INTO THE 50S THURSDAY.

AVIATION /06Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/

VFR CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL AT KCHS, KJZI, AND KSAV THROUGH 06Z
SUNDAY.

EXTENDED AVIATION OUTLOOK: PREVAILING VFR.

MARINE

TONIGHT: AS HIGH PRESSURE PERSISTS ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST UNITED
STATES, WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO DIMINISH. NORTH WINDS WILL SETTLE
INTO THE 10 TO 15 KT WITH GUSTS TO 20 KT RANGE OVER THE
NEARSHORE WATERS WITH 15 TO 20 KT OVER THE GEORGIA OFFSHORE
WATERS. SEAS WILL RANGE BETWEEN 2 TO 4 FT, EXCEPT 1 TO 2 FT NEAR
THE IMMEDIATE COAST WITH 4 TO 6 FT OVER THE GEORGIA OFFSHORE
WATERS AND NORTHERN NEARSHORE SOUTH CAROLINA WATERS. GIVEN THE
SETUP, A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY WILL CONTINUE ACROSS NEARSHORE
SOUTH CAROLINA WATERS AND ACROSS OUTER GEORGIA WATERS THROUGH
THE NIGHT.

SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY: SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY CONTINUES
THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT DUE TO LINGERING 6 FT SEAS. OTHERWISE, NO
NOTABLE MARINE CONCERNS THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK. WINDS AND SEAS
WILL BEGIN TO INCREASE ON WEDNESDAY AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT, WITH
HEADLINES EXPECTED BY WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING

ELEVATED TIDE LEVELS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEKEND ALONG
THE ENTIRE SOUTHEAST SOUTH CAROLINA AND SOUTHEAST GEORGIA COAST,
WITH THE HIGHEST TIDE LEVELS OCCURRING WITH THE MORNING HIGH
TIDES. MINOR TO MODERATE COASTAL FLOODING IS ANTICIPATED
ALTHOUGH THERE IS A RISK FOR MAJOR COASTAL FLOOD LEVELS WITH THE
SATURDAY MORNING HIGH TIDE, ESPECIALLY FOR CHARLESTON AND
COASTAL COLLETON COUNTIES. A COASTAL FLOOD WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED
FOR THE SOUTHEAST SOUTH CAROLINA AND SOUTHEAST GEORGIA COAST
FOR THE SATURDAY MORNING HIGH TIDE CYCLE.
