SHORT TERM

(THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY)
ISSUED AT 231 PM EST THU NOV 21 2024

KEY MESSAGES

- VERY LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS MAY OCCUR IN THE NORTH GEORGIA
MOUNTAINS BETWEEN 2 AM AND 10 FRIDAY.

- COOLER WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL REMAIN FIRMLY IN PLACE THROUGH
FRIDAY.

TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING:

NORTHWEST WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO DRIVE CAA ACROSS THE REGION
TONIGHT. THIS SHOULD PUSH OVERNIGHT LOWS INTO THE 30S FOR MOST OF
NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA TONIGHT. ISOLATED READINGS IN THE 20S
SHOULD OCCUR IN THE NORTH GEORGIA MOUNTAINS. WIND CHILLS IN THE 20S
CAN BE EXPECTED FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE OR BUS STOP. SINCE THE
GROWING SEASON CONCLUDED ON NOVEMBER 20TH, NO FROST OR FREEZE
ADVISORIES/WARNINGS WILL BE ISSUED FOR THIS SHIFT TOWARDS COLDER
WEATHER. A WEAK SHORTWAVE TROUGH TRACKING THROUGH THE OHIO VALLEY,
INCREASING LOW LEVEL MOISTURE AND UPSLOPE FLOW MAY INDUCE A FEW
LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS IN THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTH GEORGIA BETWEEN 2 AM
AND 10 AM FRIDAY. A DUSTING (LESS THAN HALF AN INCH) COULD OCCUR
ALONG THE NORTHWEST FACING RIDGELINES IN GILMER, FANNIN, UNION
AND TOWNS COUNTIES. NO TRAVEL IMPACTS ARE EXPECTED.

FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT:

CONTINUED NORTHWEST WINDS AND CAA WILL MAKE FRIDAY THE COLDEST DAY
OF THE SEASON THUS FAR. AFTERNOON HIGHS WILL LANGUISH IN THE LOWER
50S FOR MOST OF NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA AND OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL
DIP INTO THE 30S AGAIN. PORTIONS OF NORTHWEST GEORGIA AND THE
MOUNTAINS WILL REMAIN IN THE 40S ALL DAY. PEAK WIND GUSTS DURING THE
LATE MORNING AND EARLY AFTERNOON SHOULD BE IN THE 20 TO 30 MPH RANGE.

ALBRIGHT

LONG TERM

(SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH NEXT WEDNESDAY)
ISSUED AT 231 PM EST THU NOV 21 2024

KEY MESSAGES

- BENIGN WEATHER THROUGH THE WEEKEND WITH RAIN RETURNING EARLY
TO MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK

- WARMING TREND GOING INTO NEXT WEEK

AT THE START OF THE LONG TERM, A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL BE
EXITING OFF THE NEW ENGLAND COAST. AS THIS SYSTEM EXITS OFFSHORE,
SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST AND FLOW ALOFT
BECOMES MORE ZONAL. AS A RESULT, DRY WEATHER PERSISTS THROUGH THE
WEEKEND WITH TEMPERATURES GRADUALLY TRENDING UPWARD THROUGH EARLY
NEXT WEEK. ADDITIONALLY, A FEW DISTURBANCES WILL PASS THROUGH THE
UPPER LEVEL FLOW EARLY TO MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK OWING TO A SLIGHT
CHANCE FOR RAIN IN NORTH GA. THOUGH LATEST ENSEMBLE GUIDANCE HINTS
AT A BETTER OPPORTUNITY FOR ANY APPRECIABLE RAINFALL CLOSER TO THE
THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY. THUS, STILL TOO EARLY TO HASH OUT ANY DETAILS.

FORECAST DAYTIME TEMPERATURES START OFF IN THE 50S (SATURDAY)
GRADUALLY INCREASING BACK INTO THE UPPER 60S TO LOW 70S BY EARLY
NEXT WEEK (MONDAY). OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES WILL FOLLOW SUIT WITH
FORECAST VALUES INITIALLY IN THE 30S (SATURDAY NIGHT) INCREASING
BACK INTO THE 40S/50S NEXT WEEK.
