DISCUSSION

KEY MESSAGES:
- WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT FOR
MOST OF THE CWA.

- ARCTIC AIR WILL THEN MOVE IN FOR THE WEEKEND. LOWS SATURDAY
NIGHT COULD BE BELOW ZERO FOR MOST OF THE AREA.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:
LOW CLOUD WITH PATCHY FOG AGAIN THIS MORNING ACROSS PORTIONS OF
THE CWA. LIMITED REDUCTIONS IN VISIBILITY AND OUTSIDE OF PHILLIPS
COUNTY SO HAVE CANCELLED THE DENSE FOG ADVISORY.

THE NEXT SYSTEM CONTINUES TO DEVELOP, WITH A SHORTWAVE SLIDING
FROM THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST INTO MONTANA THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.
LEE SIDE LOW DEVELOPS OVER WYOMING, THE STRENGTHENS AS IT DROPS
SOUTH TOWARD COLORADO. MODEL CONSENSUS STILL ADJUSTING PLACEMENT
OF HEAVIEST SNOW, BUT TREND IS LEANING TOWARD PHILLIPS COUNTY
RECEIVING THE HIGHEST ACCUMULATION. SINCE WINTER STORM WATCH IS
ALREADY OUT, WILL LET ONE MORE FORECAST CYCLE OCCUR BEFORE
DETERMINING UPGRADE TO WARNING OR ADVISORY.

AS THE SYSTEM DIVES SOUTH, A VERY COLD ARCTIC AIRMASS WILL SETTLE
INTO THE REGION FOR SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY WITH HIGHS GENERALLY
20 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. SATURDAY NIGHT COULD BE THE FIRST NIGHT
BELOW ZERO FOR MOST OF THE AREA THIS SEASON.

IT LOOKS LIKE THE ARCTIC GRADUALLY LIFTS OUT MONDAY AND TUESDAY
BUT CONFIDENCE IS SHAKY ON EXACT TEMPS AT THIS POINT. ANOTHER
SYSTEM BRINGS LIGHT SNOW IN TUESDAY.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:

GENERALLY WENT WITH NBM BUT MADE SOME ADJUSTMENTS TO POPS FOR
TONIGHT. ALSO ADJUSTED VISIBILITY AND FOG TO ACCOUNT FOR CURRENT
CONDITIONS.

CONFIDENCE IS GENERALLY HIGH FOR THE UPCOMING WINTER STORM SYSTEM
WITH TIMING AND AMOUNTS, ALTHOUGH POSITIONING CONTINUES TO EVOLVE.
