KEY MESSAGES  
 
1. LIGHT PRECIPITATION IS POSSIBLE TODAY AND SATURDAY, MAINLY  
ALONG THE SIERRA AND TEHACHAPI FOOTHILLS. THERE IS A 30 TO 80  
PERCENT CHANCE FOR GREATER THAN ONE TENTH OF AN INCH IN THESE  
AREAS BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON.  
 
2. STRONG WIND GUSTS WILL CONTINUE ALONG THE MOJAVE SLOPES  
THROUGH SATURDAY. A WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THIS  
AREA DUE TO EXPECTED WINDS 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 60 MPH.  
 
3. TEMPERATURES ARE FORECAST TO HOVER AROUND CLIMATOLOGICAL  
AVERAGES THROUGH AT LEAST MONDAY.  
 
4. THERE IS POTENTIAL FOR A SYSTEM TO BRING MORE SIGNIFICANT  
PRECIPITATION NEXT WEEK. BUT THERE REMAINS A LARGE AMOUNT OF  
UNCERTAINTY WITH THE TRACK OF THIS SYSTEM AT THIS TIME.  
 
 
   
DISCUSSION  
 
AN UPPER TROUGH REMAINS OVER THE WEST WITH A CLOSED LOW JUST  
OFF THE WASHINGTON COAST. SATELLITE LOOPS SHOW EXTENSIVE CLOUD  
COVER OVER CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. THERE IS A SLIGHT  
CHANCE FOR LIGHT PRECIPITATION TODAY INTO SATURDAY, MAINLY AS  
UPSLOPE SHOWERS ALONG THE SIERRA AND TEHACHAPI FOOTHILLS. MOST  
AREAS WILL SEE LESS THAN ONE TENTH OF AN INCH OF RAINFALL. A  
FEW LOCATIONS DO HAVE UP TO AN 80 PERCENT CHANCE FOR RECEIVING  
ONE TENTH OF AN INCH BUT THERE IS ONLY A 30 PERCENT CHANCE FOR  
ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH. THE SNOW LEVEL WILL FLUCTUATE BETWEEN  
5000 TO 6000 FEET WITH LOCAL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES POSSIBLE.  
 
ANOTHER DISTURBANCE IS FORECAST TO MOVE IN ON SUNDAY AND MONDAY  
WITH HIGHER CHANCES FOR PRECIPITATION. THERE IS CURRENTLY A 65  
PERCENT CHANCE FOR 0.5" RAINFALL AT MARIPOSA BY 5AM TUESDAY AND  
A 35 PERCENT CHANCE FOR 1" OF RAINFALL. THE DETERMINISTIC GFS  
HAS BEEN SHOWING A STRONG SYSTEM MOVING INTO CENTRAL CALIFORNIA  
AROUND WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2. BUT CLUSTER ANALYSIS INDICATES LARGE  
UNCERTAINTY AMONG THE ENSEMBLES.

LOCAL MVFR TO MOUNTAIN OBSCURING IFR CONDITIONS POSSIBLE IN  
SHOWERS ACROSS THE SIERRA NEVADA AND TEHACHAPI FOOTHILLS.  
WESTERLY WIND GUSTS TO 50 KTS ALONG THE MOJAVE DESERT SLOPES.  
OTHERWISE, VFR CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL.
