KEY MESSAGES

- WIND CHILLS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS TONIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING
ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA

- AFTER A BRIEF COOLER DAY TODAY, TEMPERATURES RETURN INTO THE
50S FOR THE WEEKEND

- ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS THIS WEEKEND ACROSS SOUTHWEST NEBRASKA

SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/

ISSUED AT 328 AM CST FRI DEC 20 2024

THE MAIN CONCERN IN THE SHORT TERM WILL BE THE LINGERING
COOLER TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH SOME LIGHT WINDS ACROSS NORTH
CENTRAL NEBRASKA THAT WILL LEAD TO WIND CHILLS IN THE SINGLE
DIGITS FOR TONIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING. THE COLDEST
TEMPERATURES WILL BE ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA WHERE IT IS
INFLUENCED BY THE CAA. FOR WESTERN NEBRASKA INTO THE SANDHILLS,
ALTHOUGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE COOLER TODAY, THEY ARE BEGINNING
TO BE INFLUENCED BY THE BUILDING RIDGE TO THE WEST AND WILL BE
MORE MODERATELY COOLER.

FOR SATURDAY, THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE CONTINUES TO MOVE EASTWARD AND
THE COLDER AIR ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA TRANSLATES EAST AS
WELL. THIS WILL ALLOW TEMPERATURES TO WARM INTO THE 40S AND 50S.
WESTERN NEBRASKA WILL HAVE THE WARMEST TEMPERATURES AS WAA WILL
PUSH TEMPERATURES INTO THE 50S TO LOW 60S. WITH THE WARMER AND
DRIER CONDITIONS ON SATURDAY THERE WILL BE SOME ELEVATED FIRE
WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS WESTERN NEBRASKA, WINDS WILL BE REMAIN
LIGHT, GENERALLY AROUND 5 TO 10 MPH.

LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/

ISSUED AT 328 AM CST FRI DEC 20 2024

UPPER LEVEL RIDGING CONTINUES INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK, KEEPING THE
WARMER AND DRIER CONDITIONS THROUGH CHRISTMAS EVE. THIS WILL
ALSO LEAD TO ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS THROUGHOUT THE WEEK,
MAINLY ACROSS WESTERN AND SOUTHWEST NEBRASKA, HOWEVER WINDS ARE
EXPECTED TO REMAIN LIGHT THROUGH MID-WEEK. THERE COULD
POTENTIALLY BE A SYSTEM THAT MOVES INTO THE AREA CHRISTMAS DAY,
BUT AT THIS TIME THERE IS TOO MUCH UNCERTAINTY AS THE SYSTEM IS
STILL OFFSHORE, WILL HAVE TO CONTINUE TO MONITOR AS IT GETS
CLOSER.

AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z SATURDAY/

ISSUED AT 449 AM CST FRI DEC 20 2024

VFR CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS. WINDS WILL
OUT OF THE SOUTH AROUND 5 TO 15 KTS THIS AFTERNOON THEN BECOME
LIGHT AND VARIABLE AFTER MIDNIGHT ACROSS THE SOUTHERN SANDHILLS
INTO SOUTHWEST NEBRASKA. ACROSS THE NORTHERN SANDHILLS AND NORTH
CENTRAL NEBRASKA, WINDS WILL BE LIGHT OUT OF THE SOUTHWEST.
SKIES WILL REMAIN MOSTLY CLEAR WITH SOME HIGH CLOUDS MOVING IN
THIS AFTERNOON, BUT CLEARING OVERNIGHT.
