KEY MESSAGES

- QUIET CONDITIONS AND WARM TEMPERATURES CONTINUE THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

- NEXT PRECIPITATION POTENTIAL ARRIVES WEDNESDAY NIGHT LASTING INTO
FRIDAY ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST AND CENTRAL NEBRASKA WITH THE
MAIN PRECIPITATION TYPE BEING RAIN.

- DRY WEATHER RETURNS FOR THE WEEKEND WITH COOLER TEMPERATURES
ARRIVING BY THE BEGINNING OF NEXT WEEK.

SHORT TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/

ISSUED AT 234 PM CST TUE JAN 28 2025

QUIET CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE SHORT TERM AS SURFACE
HIGH PRESSURE SLOWLY SLIDES TO THE SOUTHEAST. THIS RIDGING WILL
BRING WARMER TEMPERATURES TO THE REGION AS A SURGE OF 850MB
TEMPERATURES IN THE 6 TO 10 C RANGE PUSH INTO CENTRAL NEBRASKA.
THESE WARMER LOW TO MID LEVEL TEMPERATURES WILL ALLOW FOR SURFACE
HIGHS TO REACH THE LOW TO MID 50S FOR MOST LOCATIONS THROUGH
WEDNESDAY. THE EXCEPTION WILL BE ACROSS THE PINE RIDGE WHERE HIGHER
TERRAIN WILL KEEP TEMPERATURES ON THE COOLER END OF GUIDANCE IN THE
MID TO UPPER 40S. PLENTY OF SUNSHINE WILL ALSO HELP SUPPORT WARMER
TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE REGION. SOME INCREASING CLOUDS ON WEDNESDAY
AFTERNOON ARE EXPECTED FROM SOUTH TO NORTH AS THE NEXT SYSTEM BEGINS
TO DEVELOP WHICH MAY LIMIT HIGHS IN THE MID TO UPPER 40S ACROSS THE
SOUTH BY A COUPLE DEGREES. ELSEWHERE HIGHS IN THE LOW 50S WILL STILL
BE EXPECTED ON WEDNESDAY.

LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/

ISSUED AT 234 PM CST TUE JAN 28 2025

A CUTOFF LOW OVER THE FOUR CORNERS REGION OF THE SOUTHWEST US WILL
BEGIN TO PUSH EASTWARD ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT ALLOWING FOR A SURFACE LOW
TO DEVELOP OVER THE CENTRAL PLAINS. LATEST GUIDANCE CONTINUES TO
SUGGEST THE MAJORITY OF THE PRECIPITATION WILL BE TO THE SOUTH AND
EAST, HOWEVER, PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST AND CENTRAL NEBRASKA WILL GET
CLIPPED WITH SOME LIGHT PRECIP. CONFIDENCE CONTINUES TO INCREASE IN
PRECIP TYPE FOR THIS SYSTEM. WARMER AIR WILL CONTINUE TO FILTER INTO
THE PLAINS ON THURSDAY KEEPING TEMPERATURES ABOVE FREEZING. THIS
WILL IN TURN KEEP THE MAIN PRECIP TYPE AS ALL RAIN. THERE IS A
SLIGHT POTENTIAL FOR SOME SNOW OR RAIN/SNOW MIX ACROSS THE WESTERN
FRINGE OF THIS SYSTEM, MAINLY EARLY THURSDAY BEFORE SUNRISE WHEN
TEMPERATURES ARE STILL BELOW FREEZING. AT THIS TIME, ANY
ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE LIGHT AND BRIEF, ONLY TOTALING UP TO A HALF
INCH. AFTER SUNRISE ON THURSDAY, TEMPERATURES WILL QUICKLY CLIMB AND
ANY SNOW OR MIX WILL CHANGE OVER TO ALL SNOW FOR THE DURATION OF THE
EVENT. LOCATIONS SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 2 HAVE THE BEST POTENTIAL TO SEE
ANY TYPE OF PRECIPITATION WITH INCREASING CHANCES TO THE SOUTH. RAIN
WILL GRADUALLY PUSH OFF TO THE EAST THROUGHOUT THE DAY, EXITING THE
REGION BY MIDNIGHT CT FRIDAY.

ZONAL FLOW WILL SET UP BEHIND THE DEPARTING LOW ON FRIDAY NIGHT
BRINGING SOME QUIETER AND DRIER WEATHER TO THE REGION. TEMPERATURES
REMAIN FAIRLY CONSTANT THROUGH THE FIRST HALF OF THE WEEKEND WITH
HIGHS IN THE 50S AND LOW 60S. SOME COLD AIR ADVECTION AS WELL AS A
TROUGH DIGGING TO THE SOUTH WILL BEGIN PUSHING INTO NEBRASKA ON
SUNDAY BRINGING SOME COOLER TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE START OF THE
WEEK. HIGHS NEXT MONDAY AND TUESDAY WILL ONLY RANGE FROM THE UPPER
20S IN THE NORTHEAST TO THE UPPER 30S IN THE SOUTHWEST. IN ADDITION
TO THE COOLER TEMPERATURES TO START NEXT WEEK, THE TROUGH WILL BRING
SOME CHANCES FOR SNOW ACROSS NORTHERN NEBRASKA. CONFIDENCE REMAINS
LOW IN DEVELOPMENT AND STRENGTH AS WELL AS ACCUMULATIONS, BUT IT'S
WORTH A MENTION HERE NONETHELESS. STAY TUNED TO THE LATEST FORECASTS
FOR THE MOST UP TO DATE INFO ABOUT THIS DISTURBANCE.
