SYNOPSIS

UNSETTLED WEATHER THRU THE WEEK WITH BREEZES ACROSS
THE FORECAST AREA AND ISOLATED LIGHT SHOWERS ACROSS NORTHERN
NEVADA WHILE CENTRAL NEVADA REMAINS DRY. COLD FRONT PUSHES IN FROM
THE NORTHWEST SATURDAY BRINGING INCREASED PROBABILITES FOR
PRECIPITATION ACROSS NEVADA.

SHORT TERM

TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT

TRANSIENT UPPER RIDGE MOVES THRU THE FORECAST AREA TODAY WITH
NORTHWESTERLY FLOW EARLY THIS MORNING TRANSITIONING TO
SOUTHWESTERLY BY THE EVENING HOURS AS A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM
RAPIDLY DEEPENS OFF SHORE OF THE PACNW. WEATHER WILL BE GENERALLY
FAIR WITH INCREASING MID LEVEL CLOUDS THRU THE AFTERNOON, THOUGH
REMAINING QUITE COOL WITH DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES AS MUCH AS 10
TO 15 DEGREES COOLER THAN AVERAGE. THIS PUTS DAYTIME HIGHS IN THE
LOW 30S TO LOW 40S. OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL BE WARMER THAN LAST NIGHT
GIVEN THE SWITCH TO WARMER SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW LATE IN THE DAY
ALONG WITH ADDITIONAL CLOUD COVER. LOWS MOSTLY RESIDE IN THE LOW
TEENS TO LOW 20S, THOUGH A FEW OF THE TYPICAL COLDER VALLEYS MAY
SNEAK INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS.

WEATHER BECOMES MORE UNSETTLED AS EARLY AS TUESDAY NIGHT AND THRU
WEDNESDAY NIGHT WITH INCREASED SURFACE WINDS IN RESPONSE TO
TIGHTER SURFACE GRADIENTS WITH SOUTHERLY GUSTS 20 TO 25+ MPH.
LIGHT SHOWERS ALSO CREEP INTO NORTHERN NEVADA, BEGINNING ALONG THE
IDAHO AND OREGON BORDERS TUESDAY NIGHT, SPREADING AS FAR SOUTH AS
THE I-80 CORRIDOR WEDNESDAY. SHOWERS WILL BE ISOLATED WITH SNOW
LEVELS RAISING TO AROUND 6000 FEET DURING THE DAY. LITTLE TO NO
ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WEDNESDAY
RESIDE IN THE 40S WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS MOSTLY IN THE 20S.

LONG TERM

THURSDAY THROUGH NEXT TUESDAY

A MULTI-DAY ATMOSPHERIC RIVER EVENT IS FORECAST TO IMPACT NORTHERN
CALIFORNIA FROM TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, RESULTING IN LARGE AMOUNTS
OF MOISTURE STREAMING INTO THE REGION. EXTREME RAINFALL AMOUNTS
ARE EXPECTED IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, BUT THE IMPACTS TO NEVADA
WILL BE LOW; LIGHT SHOWERS IN THE VALLEYS AND SNOW IN THE
MOUNTAINS ARE FORECAST DURING THE TIME PERIOD. A MID-LEVEL RIDGE
WILL REMAIN IN PLACE UNTIL SATURDAY MORNING, WITH THE WESTERN EDGE
OVER NEVADA. LIGHT SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW, AND WARMER TEMPERATURES
ARE EXPECTED DUE TO THE RIDGE, WITH LIGHT RAIN/SNOW SHOWERS
POSSIBLE FOR NORTHERN NEVADA AS MOISTURE MOVES AROUND THE RIDGE.
LOWS IN THE MID TO UPPER 20S IN THE MORNINGS, AND AFTERNOON HIGHS
IN THE UPPER 40S TO LOWER 50S ARE EXPECTED.

A TROUGH AND ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL PUSH INTO THE GREAT BASIN
LATE FRIDAY NIGHT TO EARLY SATURDAY MORNING, RESULTING IN GUSTY
WINDS AND WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION. 15-20 KT WINDS WITH GUSTS UP
TO 30 KTS ARE FORECAST AS THE FRONT PASSES THROUGH. SATURDAY
MORNING LOWS WILL BE IN THE UPPER 20S AND LOWER 30S, BUT AFTERNOON
HIGHS WILL BE IN THE LOWER 50S IN CENTRAL NEVADA, WITH HIGHS IN
THE LOW TO MID 40S ACROSS NORTHERN NEVADA. SNOW LEVELS WILL DROP
TO AROUND 6,000 FEET IN NORTHERN NEVADA, THEN FALL TO AROUND 5,000
FEET BY SUNDAY. SNOW LEVELS WILL REMAIN ABOVE 5,000 FEET IN
CENTRAL NEVADA UNTIL TUESDAY, THEN DROP TO AROUND 5,000 FEET. 1-2
INCHES OF SNOW IS FORECAST FOR HIGHER ELEVATIONS ON SATURDAY AND
SUNDAY, WITH LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS IN THE VALLEYS ON SATURDAY. A
TRACE OF SNOW IS POSSIBLE FOR LOWER ELEVATIONS ON SUNDAY AS SNOW
LEVELS LOWER. LOWS ON SUNDAY MORNING WILL FALL TO THE LOWER 20S,
AND HIGHS WILL ONLY REACH THE LOWER 40S IN THE AFTERNOON. WESTERLY
15-20 KT WINDS WITH 25 KT GUSTS WILL CONTINUE ON MONDAY AND
TUESDAY DUE TO A JET STREAK POSITIONED DIRECTLY OVER THE NORTHERN
PART OF NEVADA. WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION CHANCES WILL REMAIN ON
MONDAY, WITH A TRACE TO 0.1 INCHES OF SNOW IN THE VALLEYS AND 1-2
INCHES IN MOUNTAIN PASSES. ISOLATED RAIN AND SNOW SHOWERS ARE
