..DISCUSSION FROM MONTEREY

A DEEP SUBTROPICAL WATER VAPOR AND MOISTURE TAP I.E. STRONG
ATMOSPHERIC RIVER ATTACHED TO A NEARLY STATIONARY LOW PRESSURE
SYSTEM CENTERED NEAR THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST WILL CONTINUE TO BRING
MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN TO THE NORTH BAY TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY. AREAS
OF STRONG AND GUSTY SOUTHERLY WINDS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE
DISTRICT, ESPECIALLY AT ELEVATION IN THE HILLTOPS AND MOUNTAINTOPS.
THE ATMOSPHERIC RIVER IS ALSO NEARLY STATIONARY AND IT'S FORECAST
TO MOVE EASTWARD ONLY UNTIL AFTER SECONDARY (RAPID) LOW PRESSURE
DEVELOPMENT OCCURS OVER THE NORTHEAST PACIFIC THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY.
THE SECONDARY DEVELOPMENT WILL PUSH FORWARD A COLD FRONT AND
WETTING RAIN FARTHER SOUTH AND EAST ACROSS THE REST OF THE DISTRICT
FRIDAY. A FEW SHOWERS LINGER SATURDAY, MORE WIDESPREAD WET WEATHER
RETURNS SUNDAY. UNSETTLED WET WEATHER MAY CONTINUE INTO EARLY TO MID
NEXT WEEK.

NOTE : ALL WINDS ARE 20-FOOT WINDS UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED.
THUNDERSTORMS IMPLY STRONG, GUSTY AND ERRATIC WINDS.

..DISCUSSION FROM LOS ANGELES/OXNARD

...EXTREME DRYING OVER THE MOUNTAINS AND INTERIOR THROUGH FRIDAY WITH
LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS RESULTING IN ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS...

...WIDESPREAD WETTING RAINS LIKELY WITH SIGNIFICANT COOLING AND
MOISTENING FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH AT LEAST WEDNESDAY...

HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT WILL PEAK THROUGH FRIDAY. AN EXTREMELY DRY AIR
MASS WILL DROP DOWN INTO SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA FOCUSED OVER THE
MOUNTAINS AND MANY VALLEYS. MINIMUM HUMIDITIES WILL LOWER TO 3 TO
10 PERCENT FOR THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, WITH POOR OVERNIGHT RECOVERIES.
MEANWHILE, SOUTHEAST TO SOUTHWEST WIND GUSTS OF 20 TO 35 MPH WILL
BE COMMON OVER THE MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS. DUE TO THE VERY DRY
AIR, ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED WITH ISOLATED
BRIEF CRITICAL CONDITIONS OVER THE WINDIER MOUNTAINS.

A SIGNIFICANT PATTERN CHANGE WILL COMMENCE FRIDAY NIGHT AND LAST
THROUGH NEXT WEEK. CONFIDENCE IS HIGH IN WIDESPREAD RAIN OVER THE
REGION, BUT CONFIDENCE IS LOW IN TOTAL AMOUNTS AND TIMING. THE FIRST
WAVE OF RAIN WILL OCCUR LATE FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY, WITH LIGHT
AMOUNTS AND RATES. THE NEXT WAVE OF RAIN LOOKS TO START SOMETIME
BETWEEN SUNDAY AND TUESDAY, WITH A WIDE RANGE OF OUTCOMES REMAINING.
THE MOST LIKELY OUTCOME IS FOR BENEFICIAL RAIN.
