SHORT TERM

(TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY)
ISSUED AT 119 AM CST TUE DEC 3 2024

WHILE YESTERDAY'S SNOWS HAVE COME TO AN END, DECEMBER 2 IS BY FAR
NOT THE EARLIEST SNOW WE'VE EVER HAD. THE RECORD EARLIEST SNOW IS
HELD BY THE DATE OCTOBER 31 SET BACK IN 1993. IN THE END, IT
LOOKS LIKE A SPOT OR TWO MIGHT HAVE OVERPERFORMED, REACHING 3/4",
BUT THE VAST MAJORITY OF THOSE WHO HAD SNOW STICK SAW BETWEEN A
DUSTING AND 1/2". THE MORE IMPORTANT ASPECT IS USING CAUTION ON
AREA ROADWAYS -- ESPECIALLY BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES -- THROUGH THE
REST OF THE NIGHT. THERE HAVE ALREADY BEEN SEVERAL TRAFFIC
ACCIDENTS DUE TO SLICK CONDITIONS AS WET ROADS HAVE ICED OVER.
PLEASE TAKE IT SLOW DURING THE TUESDAY MORNING COMMUTE. EVERYONE
WILL START OUT IN THE LOW 20S AND WITH CLOUD COVER NOT EXPECTED TO
START WANING UNTIL LATE MORNING OR EARLY AFTERNOON, TEMPERATURES
WILL BE SLOW TO RECOVER AND IMPROVE ANY POOR ROAD CONDITIONS.

LONG TERM

(WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH NEXT TUESDAY)
ISSUED AT 119 AM CST TUE DEC 3 2024

THE REST OF THIS MORNING'S FORECAST PACKAGE IS GOING TO REVOLVE
AROUND TWO WEATHER SYSTEMS. THE FIRST WILL BEGIN TO MOVE INTO THE
AREA LATE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. YOU'LL KNOW WHEN IT'S GETTING CLOSE
AS THE SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL TIGHTEN AND WINDS WILL START
TO PICK UP. WIND GUSTS OF 25-30 MPH WILL MAKE AFTERNOON HIGHS FEEL A
LOT COOLER. BY WEDNESDAY EVENING, SOME LIGHT RAIN WILL BE POSSIBLE
BUT ONCE AGAIN, WE MAY BE DEALING WITH ONE OF THOSE SYSTEMS WHERE
THE COLD AIR IS CHASING THE PRECIPITATION. I DON'T THINK THIS IS
GOING TO HAVE A DRASTIC IMPACT ANYWHERE IN MIDDLE TN, BUT THE UPPER
CUMBERLAND COULD BE THE WINNER AGAIN WITH A CHANGE OVER TO A FEW
SNOW SHOWERS BEFORE SUNRISE THURSDAY. QPFS ARE SUCH THAT I DON'T
EXPECT ANY ACCUMULATIONS, BUT SIMILAR TO THIS MORNING, WITH MORNING
LOWS IN THE MID 20S, SOME SLICK ROADS MAY BE POSSIBLE.

THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY LOOK DRY. TEMPERATURES WILL RECOVER
SLIGHTLY EACH DAY, THOUGH WE SHOULD REMAIN BELOW SEASONAL AVERAGES.
THE SECOND SYSTEM OF THE WEEK IS PROGGED TO ARRIVE IN OUR REGION ON
SUNDAY NIGHT OR MONDAY. MODEL DIFFERENCES HAVE ABOUT AN 18 HOUR GAP
BETWEEN SOLUTIONS, SO SOME TWEAKING WILL BE NECESSARY OVER THE NEXT
SEVERAL DAYS. EARLY THINKING IS THIS WILL BE ALL RAIN WITH NO
THUNDER AND HEALTHY QPFS RANGING FROM 1 TO 3 INCHES, BUT LOTS CAN
CHANGE IN A WEEK'S TIME.
