AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SPOKANE WA
950 PM PDT TUE APR 1 2025

SYNOPSIS

A COOL AND UNSETTLED WEATHER PATTERN WILL PERSIST THROUGH MUCH OF
THE WEEK WITH A WARMING AND DRYING TREND BY THE WEEKEND.

DISCUSSION

TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY: A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CONTINUES TO MOVE
OUT THE REGION THIS AFTERNOON, WITH SOME LINGERING SHOWERS OVER
EASTERN WA AND ID PANHANDLE. LIGHT RAIN IS EXPECTED WITHIN THESE
SHOWERS. OTHERWISE, DRIER AIR WILL MOVE INTO THE REGION STARTING
TONIGHT. SHOWERS WILL DIMINISH TONIGHT, WITH WEDNESDAY STARTING OFF
QUIET. A SHORTWAVE FROM CANADA WILL INCREASE PRECIPITATION CHANCES,
PARTICULARLY IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS, BUT MOISTURE IS EXPECTED TO BE
MINIMAL. A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDER HAS BEEN ADDED FOR THE HIGHER
TERRAIN WEDNESDAY AS THERE WILL BE SOME CAPE AVAILABLE. HIGHS WILL
BE IN THE UPPER 40S AND 50S WITH LOWS IN THE 30S.

THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY: WE WILL BEGIN TO SEE A WARMING AND TRYING
TREND AS A RIDGE STRENGTHENS OVER THE REGION. DAYTIME TEMPERATURES
WILL RISE INTO THE 50S ON FRIDAY AND INTO THE 60S BY SUNDAY, WITH
SOME LOW 70S POSSIBLE IN THE COLUMBIA BASIN AND LC VALLEY AREAS. DRY
AIR AND CLEAR SKIES WILL RESULT IN CHILLY OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES.
MODELS SUGGEST THE RIDGE WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEKEND, WITH
LOWER MOISTURE LEVELS IMPACTING OVERNIGHT LOWS AND RELATIVE HUMIDITY,
POTENTIALLY AFFECTING PRESCRIBED BURNS. BY MONDAY AND TUESDAY, THE
RIDGE BEGINS TO MOVE EAST ALTHOUGH THERE IS UNCERTAINTY IN THE
TIMING OF THIS OCCURRING. A TROUGH WILL SLIDE IN BEHIND, THAT WILL
BRING SOME PRECIPITATION TO THE CASCADES AND POTENTIALLY TO THE
LOWER ELEVATIONS. TEMPERATURES WILL COOL SLIGHTLY TO START THE WEEK
BUT THERE ARE HINTS OF ANOTHER RIDGE FORMING LATE NEXT WEEK. /KK

AVIATION

06Z TAFS: WITH SIMILAR TEMPERATURES AND HUMIDITY VALUES TONIGHT AS
LAST NIGHT, CEILINGS MAY DROP AGAIN AT GEG, SFF, COE, AND PUW
WITH A FEW HOURS OF IFR CONDITIONS POSSIBLE AROUND SUNRISE.
SHOWERS WILL REDEVELOP OVER THE IDAHO PANHANDLE IN THE EARLY
MORNING HOURS SO INCLUDED A PROB30 GROUP FOR SHOWERS IN THE COE
TAF. LWS IS LOOKING DRIER TONIGHT SO DID NOT PUT FOG IN THE TAF.
EAT AND MWH WILL REMAIN VFR.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE AND/OR ALTERNATE SCENARIOS: LOW CONFIDENCE ON
SHOWERS IMPACTING COE. LOW TO MODERATE CONFIDENCE IN IFR
CONDITIONS DEVELOPING FOR GEG, SFF, AND COE.

-----------------------
