SLOWLY WRAPPING UP FROM WEST TO EAST, BUT THESE GUSTY WINDS WILL
CONTINUE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON CONTRIBUTING TO BLOWING AND

PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 404 AM MST SUN DEC 15 2024/

SHORT TERM...TODAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT.
WINTER STORM WARNINGS REMAIN IN EFFECT THROUGH 5 PM IN THE EASTERN
MOUNTAINS WHERE AN ADDITIONAL 2 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW MAY FALL. ALL
HIGHLIGHTS IN THE CENTRAL MOUNTAINS WILL EXPIRE AT 5 AM AS ONLY
VERY LIGHT SNOW WITH LITTLE ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED THE REMAINDER
OF THE DAY. THE ADVISORY FOR THE UPPER SNAKE PLAIN AND BLACKFOOT
MOUNTAINS WILL EXPIRE AT 11 AM. IT WILL BE MUCH COLDER BEHIND THE
COLD FRONT TODAY WITH HIGHS IN THE 20S AND 30S. LOWS TONIGHT WILL
BE IN THE TEENS AND 20S. IT WILL BE WINDY TODAY WITH WIND GUSTS 30
TO 40 MPH IN THE SNAKE RIVER PLAIN THIS MORNING AS WELL AS SOME
HIGHER ELEVATIONS IN THE SOUTHERN MOUNTAINS AND EASTERN HIGHLANDS.
WINDS WILL DIMINISH THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE NEXT SYSTEM
WILL SPREAD SNOW BACK INTO CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST IDAHO MONDAY
THROUGH TUESDAY. WILL AGAIN MAINLY BE A MOUNTAIN EVENT WITH SOME
AREAS OF GREATER THAN 6 INCHES ABOVE 6 THOUSAND FEET BUT NOT AS
SIGNIFICANT AS THIS WEEKEND'S SYSTEM. VERY LITTLE SNOW AGAIN
EXPECTED IN THE SNAKE RIVER PLAIN WITH GENERALLY A HALF INCH TO
LOCALLY 2 INCHES AT THIS POINT EXPECTED. HIGHS MONDAY MAINLY IN
THE 30S.
GK

LONG TERM...TUE THROUGH NEXT SAT NIGHT. THE WINTER STORM THAT
STARTS IN THE NEAR TERM PERIOD ENDS DURING THE FIRST 24 HOURS OF
THIS PERIOD. THERE IS A WIDE DISCREPANCY ON JUST WHEN THAT IS FOR
ALL THE DIFFERENT REGIONS IN THE FORECAST AREA, ALTHOUGH IT IS
EXPECTED TO BE EXTREMELY LIGHT FOR THE LATE NIGHT HOURS ON TUE
NIGHT. STRATUS AND FOG CONTINUE UNDER HIGH PRESSURE, WITH THE
PREVIOUSLY EXPECTED FRI NIGHT WINTER STORM NOW PUSHED BACK 24 HOURS
TO SAT NIGHT.

UNTIL THEN, 570+ DM HEIGHTS AND 500MB IS FAIRLY MILD, WHICH MEANS
WITH THE STRATUS AND FOG THAT OVERNIGHT LOWS ARE SEASONABLY MILD,
AND AFTERNOON HIGHS WILL RUN 10-15 DEG F ABOVE NORMAL.

WED AND THU HAVE BREEZY TO WINDY CONDITIONS WITH A STRONG UPPER
LEVEL WESTERLY FLOW TO SUPPORT IT. AS THE NEXT LOW APPROACHES FOR
SAT NIGHT, THIS FLOW WEAKENS.

MESSICK

AVIATION...WITH THE EXCEPTION OF KDIJ, AIRDROMES WILL BE IMPROVING
SIGNIFICANTLY BY 15/18Z, WITH KSUN THE FIRST (AFTER A TRYING DAY
YESTERDAY) BY 15/12Z. KIDA MAY STILL BE MARGINAL VFR, BUT THAT STILL
MEANS VFR. KDIJ WILL BE THE LAST TO CLEAR, AROUND 15/20Z OR SO.
AROUND 16/12Z THE NEXT STORM WILL BE MOVING INTO KSUN.

WIND WILL BE STRONG TODAY FROM THE WEST SOUTHWEST AT KBYI AND KPIH,
WHICH SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE FOR AIRDROMES SINCE IT IS ALIGNED WITH
THE MAJOR RUNWAYS. SAME FOR KIDA, BUT FROM THE SOUTHWEST AND NOT AS
STRONG.
