FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR SOUTHWEST AND SOUTH-CENTRAL
ARIZONA AND SOUTHEAST CALIFORNIA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PHOENIX AZ
249 AM MST TUE APR 1 2025

DISCUSSION

STRONG GUSTY WINDS WILL BE COMMON ACROSS THE REGION TODAY AS A
WEATHER SYSTEM DROPS INTO THE REGION. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE
FOCUSED ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST CA, MAINLY ACROSS IMPERIAL
COUNTY, AND THE HIGHER TERRAIN AREAS OF MARICOPA AND GILA COUNTY
AS WIND GUSTS UP TO 35-45 MPH ARE ANTICIPATED. THESE STRONG WINDS
IN COMBINATION WITH MINRHS BETWEEN 15-25% WILL LEAD TO ELEVATED
FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. ELSEWHERE
WINDS WILL RANGE BETWEEN 20-35 MPH. WEAKER WINDS ARE EXPECTED ON
WEDNESDAY BUT WILL LIKELY GUST BETWEEN 15-30 MPH, WITH THE
STRONGEST WINDS EXPECTED ACROSS THE HIGHER TERRAIN AREAS OF
SOUTH-CENTRAL AZ AND ACROSS IMPERIAL COUNTY. THERE WILL BE SOME
MODEST RAIN CHANCES (20-50%) ACROSS THE FOOTHILLS AND HIGHER
TERRAIN AREAS TO THE NORTH AND EAST OF PHOENIX WEDNESDAY
AFTERNOON, HOWEVER, THE CWR WILL REMAIN FAIRLY LOW AT 10-30%.
WELL-BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES ARE ANTICIPATED THROUGH THE END OF
THE WEEK.

NOTE...ADDITIONAL FIRE WEATHER FORECAST INFORMATION CAN BE
FOUND IN THE AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION. SEE PRODUCT PHXAFDPSR.
