SYNOPSIS
 
 
COOLER THAN AVERAGE WEATHER WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THURSDAY. THERE  
WILL BE STRONGER ONSHORE FLOW THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT WITH AREAS OF  
SOUTHWEST TO WEST WINDS FOR THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS WITH THE  
STRONGER GUSTS TO 45 TO 55 MPH WITH ISOLATED GUSTS TO 70 MPH.  
LIGHT RAINFALL IS EXPECTED INTO THIS EVENING FROM THE COAST TO THE  
MOUNTAINS WITH ADDITIONAL CHANCES FOR MOSTLY LIGHT PRECIPITATION  
FOR TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING AND AROUND THURSDAY. THEN  
DRIER WITH WARMING FOR FRIDAY INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK WITH HIGH  
TEMPERATURES WARMING TO AROUND AVERAGE FOR THE COAST AND VALLEYS  
ON SATURDAY AND FOR THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS ON MONDAY.  
 

 
   
DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE
 
 
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO  
COUNTIES...  
   
SHORT TERM (TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY)
 
 
A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVING INLAND THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST  
TODAY AND INTO THE NORTHERN ROCKIES ON TUESDAY WILL BRING STRONGER  
ONSHORE FLOW TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. COOLER THAN AVERAGE HIGH  
TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE THROUGH WEDNESDAY, AS MUCH AS 8 TO 12  
DEGREES BELOW AVERAGE FOR THE MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS TODAY AND AS  
MUCH AS 12 TO 18 DEGREES BELOW AVERAGE FOR THE MOUNTAINS ON  
TUESDAY.  
 
THERE WILL BE PERIODS OF STRONGER AND GUSTY SOUTHWEST TO WEST  
WINDS FOR THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS THROUGH TONIGHT WITH THE  
STRONGER GUSTS TO 55 TO 65 MPH AND ISOLATED GUSTS TO 70 MPH. GUSTY  
SOUTHWEST TO WEST WINDS WILL CONTINUE FOR THE MOUNTAINS AND  
DESERTS FOR TUESDAY MORNING INTO TUESDAY NIGHT WITH THE STRONGER  
GUSTS TO 45 TO 55 MPH WITH ISOLATED GUSTS TO 70 MPH. STRONGER  
WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS ACROSS THE COASTAL WATERS WILL SPREAD  
INLAND INTO THE COAST AND VALLEYS DURING TUESDAY AFTERNOON WITH  
GUSTS TO 35 TO 40 MPH NEAR THE ORANGE COUNTY COAST AND TO 30 TO 40  
MPH FOR THE INLAND EMPIRE. THOSE WINDS WILL DIMINISH TUESDAY  
EVENING.  
 
LIGHT RAIN WILL SPREAD INLAND FROM THE COASTAL WATERS TO THE  
MOUNTAINS THIS MORNING, THEN GRADUALLY END DURING THE EVENING.  
RAINFALL IS EXPECTED TO RANGE FROM AROUND ONE-TENTH INCH NEAR THE  
COAST TO ONE-QUARTER TO ONE-HALF INCH IN THE MOUNTAINS WITH  
LOCALLY GREATER AMOUNTS. THROUGH 4 AM, RAINFALL HAS MOSTLY BEEN A  
FEW HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH OR LESS NEAR THE COAST TO AS MUCH AS  
0.10 TO 0.15 INCH ON SOME OF THE COASTAL MOUNTAIN SLOPES. THERE  
IS A 20 TO 30 PERCENT CHANCE FOR MEASURABLE PRECIPITATION FOR  
TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING.  
 

 
   
LONG TERM (THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY)
 
 
A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVING SOUTHWARD ALONG THE WEST COAST COULD  
BRING SOME ADDITIONAL PRECIPITATION AROUND THURSDAY. NBM CHANCES  
FOR MEASURABLE PRECIPITATION ARE AROUND 25 TO 35 PERCENT WITH A  
LESS THAN 10 PERCENT CHANCE FOR ONE-HALF INCH OR MORE OF RAINFALL  
FOR TYPICALLY WETTER LOCATIONS ON THE COASTAL SLOPES OF THE  
MOUNTAINS.  
 
THEN DRIER WITH WARMING FOR FRIDAY INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK WITH HIGH  
TEMPERATURES FOR THE COAST AND VALLEYS WARMING TO AROUND AVERAGE  
ON SATURDAY AND FOR THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS WARMING TO AROUND

AFTERNOON AND EVENING. TOPS WILL BE TO 6000 FEET MSL AND MUCH  
TERRAIN WILL BE OBSCURED MUCH OF THE TIME. CONDITIONS IMPROVE 00-06Z  
AND OVERNIGHT INTO TUESDAY FROM NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST, WITH BASES  
LIFTING TO 1500-2500 FEET MSL, VIS MOSTLY P6SM, AND ONLY PATCHY  
TERRAIN OBSCURED.  
 
HIGHER MOUNTAINS/DESERTS...SCT-BKN CLOUDS AOA 15000 FEET MSL TODAY  
AND TONIGHT. STRONG WESTERLY WINDS CONTINUE TODAY. GUSTS 30-50 KTS  
OVER THE RIDGES AND IN WIND-PRONE MOUNTAIN PASSES, WITH GUSTS 25-35  
KTS WITHIN THE OPEN DESERTS. AREAS OF MODERATE UP/DOWNDRAFTS,  
INCLUDING LOCALIZED LLWS AND ROTORS, IN LEE OF MOUNTAINS AND

WINDS WILL INCREASE AND SEAS WILL BUILD TONIGHT, PEAKING WITH  
PROBABLE GALES TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT, BEFORE DECREASING SOME,  
BUT STILL PROBABLY HAZARDOUS ON WEDNESDAY. WINDS AND SEAS WILL BE  
HAZARDOUS DURING THIS PERIOD. A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT  
TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON AHEAD OF THE GALE WATCH FOR  
TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING. CHECK THOSE BULLETINS
