NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAS VEGAS NV
852 AM PST SUN NOV 17 2024

SYNOPSIS
A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL BRIEFLY MOVE OVER OUR
REGION TODAY BEFORE ANOTHER LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM PASSES BY TO THE
NORTH MONDAY, KEEPING TEMPERATURES ON THE COOL SIDE AND SETTING THE
STAGE FOR PERSISTENT, GUSTY NORTH WINDS DOWN THE LOWER COLORADO
RIVER VALLEY. BUILDING HIGH PRESSURE WILL BRING DRY WEATHER AND A
WARMING TREND BEGINNING WEDNESDAY.

UPDATE
THE EARLY MORNING SATELLITE LOOP SHOWS MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES
HAVE DEVELOPED ACROSS THE REGION AS A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS
IN FROM THE WEST. WHILE NORTHERLY WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO DIMINISH
THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS MOST OF THE AREA, ISOLATED GUSTS TO 35 MPH
WILL CONTINUE TO REMAIN POSSIBLE IN FAVORED AREAS ALONG THE LOWER
COLORADO RIVER VALLEY, INCLUDING LAKE MOHAVE NEAR LAUGHLIN AND
BULLHEAD CITY. WINDS IN THESE AREAS WILL DECREASE BY THIS EVENING.
TEMPERATURES WILL STILL BE COOL TODAY, WITH HIGHS THIS AFTERNOON
AVERAGING 4 TO 8 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. NO CHANGES WERE NEEDED TO
THE PREVIOUSLY ISSUED FORECAST.

SHORT TERM
THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT. MIDNIGHT SATELLITE LOOP SHOWED
CLEAR SKIES AREAWIDE. SURFACE OBS SHOWED NORTHERLY WINDS, STRONGEST
IN AREAS OF FAVORABLY ORIENTED TERRAIN, TEMPERATURES AVERAGING A FEW
DEGREES COLDER THAN 24 HOURS AGO, AND DEWPOINTS SEVERAL DEGREES
LOWER. AS LOW PRESSURE EXITS TO THE SOUTHEAST TODAY, A POSITIVELY
TILTED SHORTWAVE RIDGE WILL PASS OVERHEAD, BRINGING QUIET WEATHER
WITH ONE EXCEPTION. WHILE THE NORTHERLY WINDS WILL BE DECREASING
OVER MOST OF THE REGION, THEY WILL INCREASE DOWN THE COLORADO RIVER
VALLEY, WITH ISOLATED GUSTS TO 35 MPH IN THE MOST FAVORED AREAS,
INCLUDING LAUGHLIN, BULLHEAD CITY, AND DAVIS DAM. THE STRONGER WINDS
WILL COVER A SMALL AREA, SO WILL FORGO A LAKE WIND ADVISORY AND
CONTINUE MESSAGING VIA OTHER CHANNELS. THE NEXT LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM
WILL REACH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST TONIGHT AND ZIP THROUGH THE
NORTHERN ROCKIES MONDAY. IN RESPONSE, WESTERLY WINDS WILL INCREASE
OVER THE SIERRA CREST TONIGHT AND SPREAD SOUTH TO THE BARSTOW AREA
MONDAY. THE ASSOCIATED SURFACE COLD FRONT WILL PASS THROUGH THE
SOUTHERN GREAT BASIN MONDAY AND THE MOJAVE DESERT MONDAY NIGHT,
SHIFTING WINDS TO NORTHERLY. TEMPERATURES TODAY WILL BE WARMER THAN
SATURDAY, WITH THE MOST WARMING AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS AND IN WELL
VENTILATED LOWER ELEVATIONS, AND LESS WARMING IN VALLEYS. FOR
MONDAY, EXPECT HIGHS SIMILAR TO SUNDAY IN THE MOJAVE DESERT, WITH
COOLER TEMPERATURES IN THE SOUTHERN GREAT BASIN BEHIND THE COLD
FRONT.

LONG TERM
TUESDAY THROUGH NEXT SUNDAY.

ON TUESDAY, THE BROAD TROUGHING THAT PUSHED THROUGH THE SOUTHERN
GREAT BASIN WILL PUSH EASTWARD AND PHASE INTO THE UPPER-LEVEL
LONGWAVE TROUGH CENTERED OVER THE NORTHERN PLAINS. A RIDGE OF HIGH
PRESSURE WILL FORM IN THE SOUTHEASTERN PACIFIC OCEAN, WHICH WILL
BRING MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES, LIGHT WINDS, AND WILL ALLOW TEMPERATURES
TO GRADUALLY REBOUND BACK TO ABOVE-AVERAGE BY NEXT WEEKEND.
