THE CENTRAL APPALACHIANS...  
   
..TRIPLE DIGIT HEAT LIKELY FOR PORTIONS OF THE DESERT SOUTHWEST
 
 
WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE MOVING THROUGH PORTIONS  
OF THE GULF COAST STATES,TENNESSEE/OHIO VALLEYS AND THE  
MID-ATLANTIC ALONG A FRONTAL BOUNDARY TODAY AND WILL PERSIST INTO  
SUNDAY.  
LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS EASTERN KENTUCKY,  
SOUTHERN WEST VIRGINIA AND WESTERN VIRGINIA- A SLIGHT RISK FOR  
EXCESSIVE RAINFALL HAS BEEN ISSUED BY WPC FOR THIS AREA. TO THE  
SOUTH, AN UPPER LEVEL LOW LINGERING OVER THE CARIBBEAN SHOULD KEEP  
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THE FORECAST ACROSS FLORIDA.  
 
SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CAN BE EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT  
COUPLE OF DAYS ACROSS THE NORTHERN TIER STATES AS A COLD FRONT  
SAGS SOUTHWARD INTO THE UPPER MIDWEST AND GREAT LAKES REGION.  
FOR THE WEST, LIGHT SHOWERS CAN BE EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND FROM THE  
PACIFIC NORTHWEST TO THE NORTHERN ROCKIES AS A WEAK SYSTEM PASSES  
THROUGH. ACCUMULATIONS MAY BE A LITTLE HEAVIER IN AREAS OF HIGHER  
TERRAIN. MUCH OF THE SOUTHWEST WILL BE HOT AND DRY, WITH SEVERAL  
LOCATIONS FORECAST TO HAVE HIGHS IN THE TRIPLE DIGITS. EXCESSIVE  
HEAT WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT FOR COUNTIES ALONG THE  
CALIFORNIA/ARIZONA BORDER.
