...COOLER TEMPERATURES AND DRIER WEATHER ON THE WAY FOR MUCH OF
THE EASTERN U.S...

..HOT AND DRY WEATHER TO CONTINUE FOR THE DESERT SOUTHWEST

...DEVELOPING MONSOON PATTERN WILL BRING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
TO THE FOUR CORNERS REGION...

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP ALONG AND AHEAD OF A COLD
FRONT WHICH WILL BE CROSSING THE SOUTHERN MID-ATLANTIC REGION THIS
EVENING AND DROPPING DOWN ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST AND GULF COAST
STATES ON SATURDAY BEFORE THEN STALLING OUT. THIS FRONT WILL
REMAIN AN ACTIVE FOCUS FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH THE
WEEKEND ACROSS THESE AREAS, AND LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL AND AT
LEAST AN ISOLATED THREAT OF FLASH FLOODING WILL EXIST. BEHIND THE
FRONT, COOL HIGH PRESSURE WILL SPREAD ACROSS THE GREAT LAKES, OHIO
VALLEY AND THE NORTHEAST WHICH WILL ALSO FILTER SOUTH DOWN ACROSS
THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION. MUCH DRIER CONDITIONS WILL BE NOTED AND
TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR TO SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL.

MEANWHILE, A COLD FRONT WILL BE EJECTING OUT ACROSS THE NORTHERN
HIGH PLAINS AND GRADUALLY THE UPPER MIDWEST THROUGH THE WEEKEND,
WHICH WILL ALLOW FOR A RESURGENCE OF HOT TEMPERATURES ACROSS THESE
AREAS. IN FACT, TEMPERATURES WILL LOCALLY BE APPROACHING 100
DEGREES ON SATURDAY ACROSS THE DAKOTAS. THE FRONT AS IT ARRIVES
THOUGH WILL BE A FOCUS FOR AT LEAST SCATTERED SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS. SOME OF THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL WITH THE FRONT SHOULD
TEND TO FOCUS OVER AREAS OF EASTERN NORTH DAKOTA AND NORTHERN
MINNESOTA AND SOME LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING WILL BE POSSIBLE HERE.

ELSEWHERE, A RATHER STRONG AXIS OF MID TO UPPER LEVEL RIDGING
ACROSS THE DESERT SOUTHWEST WILL MAINTAIN HOT AND DRY WEATHER. IN
FACT, SOME ADDITIONAL RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES CAN BE EXPECTED
THROUGH SATURDAY AND ESPECIALLY ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. ACROSS
THE INTERIOR DESERTS OF THE SOUTHWEST, TEMPERATURES WILL LOCALLY
RANGE FROM 110 TO 115 DEGREES. HOWEVER, AREAS JUST TO THE EAST
ACROSS THE GREATER FOUR CORNERS AREA, AND ESPECIALLY THE SOUTHERN
ROCKIES, WILL SEE A WESTWARD ADVANCE OF MOISTURE IN ASSOCIATION
WITH A DEVELOPING MONSOON PATTERN. THIS WILL PROMOTE SCATTERED
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS
WHICH WILL ALSO HELP TO KEEP TEMPERATURES ACROSS THESE AREAS
RELATIVELY COOLER.
