...UNSETTLED WEATHER PATTERN CONTINUES THE EASTERN U.S. AND HEAT
CONTINUES TO MAKE HEADLINES FOR THE WESTERN STATES...

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS FROM TEXAS
TO THE EAST COAST THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK WITH A PRONOUNCED
UPPER LEVEL TROUGH BECOMING ESTABLISHED OVER THE MIDWEST AND THE
OHIO VALLEY REGION. THE RESPONSE TO THIS IN THE LOW LEVELS WILL
BE DEEP MOISTURE SURGING NORTHWARD OVER THE EASTERN U.S. THROUGH
WEDNESDAY, AIDED BY SOUTHERLY FLOW ON THE WESTERN EDGE OF THE
BERMUDA HIGH. IT WILL BE WARM AND QUITE HUMID WITH DAILY CHANCES
FOR RAIN FROM THE GULF COAST TO NEW ENGLAND. EPISODES OF HEAVY
RAIN ARE EXPECTED TO MATERIALIZE IN THIS TYPE OF WEATHER PATTERN
AND PERIODIC INSTANCES OF FLASH FLOODING ARE POSSIBLE. SLIGHT
RISK AREAS FOR EXCESSIVE RAINFALL COVER PARTS OF THE DEEP SOUTH
AND ALSO THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION.

PERSISTENT UPPER LEVEL RIDGING ACROSS THE WESTERN U.S. WILL LEAD
TO MAINLY DRY CONDITIONS FOR THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND MUCH OF THE
INTERMOUNTAIN WEST. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO BE ABOVE NORMAL
FOR MUCH OF THIS REGION, WITH HEAT ADVISORIES AND EXCESSIVE HEAT
WARNINGS IN EFFECT ACROSS PARTS OF OREGON, WASHINGTON, AND IDAHO.
POOR AIR QUALITY WILL ALSO BE AN ISSUE FOR SOME OF THESE AREAS,
ESPECIALLY NEAR ANY ACTIVE WILDFIRES. FOR THE SOUTHWESTERN U.S.,
MONSOONAL MOISTURE IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN ACROSS MUCH OF ARIZONA
AND NEW MEXICO WITH SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING MAINLY
DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS.
