SHORT RANGE FORECAST DISCUSSION
NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
400 AM EDT FRI SEP 28 2018

VALID 12Z FRI SEP 28 2018 - 12Z SUN SEP 30 2018

...MUCH BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL
PLAINS INTO THE UPPER GREAT LAKES...

...LINGERING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED ALONG THE GULF
COAST...

...MIXED PRECIPITATION EXPECTED FOR THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE
NORTHERN ROCKIES...

A REAL TASTE OF FALL IS EXPECTED FOR THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL
PLAINS AS WELL AS THE UPPER GREAT LAKES FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS
UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A COOL CANADIAN HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM.
MEANWHILE, WITH AN UPSLOPE FLOW EXPECTED TO PERSIST ALONG THE
EASTERN SLOPES OF THE NORTHERN ROCKIES, RAIN IS FORECAST TO MIX
WITH OR CHANGE OVER TO SNOW OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. THE COOL
AIR SHOULD CONTINUE TO PLUNGE SOUTHWARD INTO THE CENTRAL PLAINS
TODAY AND SHOULD REACH THE SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS SATURDAY MORNING
BEFORE RETREATING FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEKEND. SOME RAIN
SHOULD DEVELOP IN THE CENTRAL PLAINS DURING THE WEEKEND AS THE
COLD FRONT LIFTS NORTHWARD AS A WARM FRONT.

THE MID-ATLANTIC INTO NEW ENGLAND WILL SEE RAIN MOVING STEADILY
EASTWARD THROUGH THE MORNING FOLLOWED BY GRADUALLY CLEARING
TONIGHT AS A COLD FRONT PUSHES FURTHER TO THE SOUTH. THE TRAILING
FRONT IS FORECAST TO STALL NEAR OR JUST INLAND FROM THE GULF COAST
DURING THE WEEKEND. THIS WILL KEEP A GOOD CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ALONG THE SOUTHERN TIER STATES TODAY AND INTO THE
WEEKEND.

ELSEWHERE, DRY AND WARMER THAN NORMAL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO
CONTINUE IN THE WESTERN U.S., WITH A HIGH LEVEL OF FIRE DANGER
ACROSS THE INTERIOR SECTIONS. PLEASE REFER TO THE STORM
PREDICTION CENTER FOR FURTHER DETAILS ON THE FIRE DANGER OUTLOOK.

IT APPEARS THAT THE VERY OUTER EDGE OF THE MOISTURE AND DYNAMICS
ASSOCIATED WITH HURRICANE ROSA COULD REACH THE DESERT SOUTHWEST
LATER ON SUNDAY WHERE ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS COULD DEVELOP.
