SHORT RANGE FORECAST DISCUSSION
NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
420 AM EDT FRI NOV 02 2018

VALID 12Z FRI NOV 02 2018 - 12Z SUN NOV 04 2018

...SEVERE WEATHER THREAT CONTINUES TO SHIFT TO THE EAST COAST ON
FRIDAY...

...WIDESPREAD RAINFALL WITH POSSIBLE FLOODING EXPECTED FROM THE
MID-ATLANTIC TO THE NORTHEAST FRIDAY INTO EARLY SATURDAY...

...WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION FROM THE NORTHWEST TO THE NORTHERN
PLAINS, WITH STRONG GUSTY WINDS OVER THE ROCKIES ON FRIDAY...

A SLOW-MOVING FRONTAL BOUNDARY EXTENDING FROM THE NORTHEAST INTO
THE GULF OF MEXICO WILL REMAIN A FOCUS FOR RAINS AND STORMS
THROUGH FRIDAY. SOME OF THESE STORMS MAY BE STRONG TO SEVERE,
WITH THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER CONTINUING TO HIGHLIGHT A
MARGINAL RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER FROM UPSTATE NEW YORK AND
SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND TO FLORIDA ON FRIDAY. HEAVY RAIN WILL ALSO
BE A THREAT, ESPECIALLY ALONG AND AHEAD OF AN AREA OF INTENSIFYING
LOW PRESSURE LIFTING NORTH ALONG THE FRONT FROM THE MID-ATLANTIC
INTO THE NORTHEAST. THESE HEAVY RAINS MAY POSE FLASH-FLOODING
CONCERNS, WITH THE WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER HIGHLIGHTING THE
THREAT WITH A SLIGHT RISK FOR EXCESSIVE RAINFALL FROM THE
MID-ATLANTIC TO NEW ENGLAND. AS THE LOW LIFTS INTO ATLANTIC
CANADA AND THE FRONT PUSHES OFFSHORE, EXPECT THE HEAVY RAINFALL
AND SEVERE WEATHER THREAT TO WANE ACROSS MUCH OF THE EASTERN U.S.
ON SATURDAY. HOWEVER, WINDY AND WET CONDITIONS, INCLUDING SOME
MIXED PRECIPITATION IN THE MOUNTAINS, IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE
ACROSS UPSTATE NEW YORK AND NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND THROUGH LATE
SATURDAY. CURRENTLY, HIGH WIND WATCHES ARE IN EFFECT FOR SATURDAY
FOR PORTIONS OF UPSTATE NEW YORK AND NEW ENGLAND.

OUT WEST, A FRONTAL SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT WIDESPREAD
PRECIPITATION AS IT PUSHES EAST FROM THE NORTHWEST INTO THE
NORTHERN AND CENTRAL ROCKIES AND PLAINS ON FRIDAY. THIS WILL
INCLUDE SOME HIGH ELEVATION SNOWS FOR THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL
ROCKIES, AS WELL AS FOR PORTIONS OF EASTERN MONTANA AND AND
WESTERN NORTH DAKOTA WHERE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES AND WINTER
STORM WATCHES HAVE BEEN ISSUED. STRONG GUSTY WINDS ARE ALSO A
CONCERN ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS, WITH HIGH WIND WATCHES CURRENTLY IN
EFFECT FOR PORTIONS OF THE ROCKIES FROM WESTERN MONTANA TO
SOUTHERN WYOMING. THIS SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO PUSH FURTHER EAST
INTO THE PLAINS ON SATURDAY BEFORE REACHING THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY
ON SUNDAY. THIS WILL BRING WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION FROM THE
UPPER MIDWEST TO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS AND LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY,
INCLUDING SHOWERS AND STORMS LATE SATURDAY INTO EARLY SUNDAY FROM
EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND TEXAS INTO THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY.
SOME MIXED PRECIPITATION FROM NORTH DAKOTA INTO NORTHERN MINNESOTA
AND THE UPPER GREAT LAKES REGION CAN BE EXPECTED AS WELL.
