WITH LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES AND VERY DRY GROUND. THE STORM
PREDICTION CENTER HAS CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS INDICATED
FOR PORTIONS OF BOTH SOUTHERN AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA ON SATURDAY,

ALONG THE NORTHERN TIER OF THE U.S., SNOW IS FORECAST. ON THE
BACKSIDE OF A SURFACE LOW MOVING ALONG THE NORTHEAST, COLD AIR
WILL STREAM INTO THE LOWER GREAT LAKES REGION, CREATING LIGHT TO
MODERATE LAKE EFFECT SNOW ON SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. ANOTHER
SURFACE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE EASTWARD THROUGH THE
NORTHERN PLAINS ON SATURDAY AND INTO THE UPPER GREAT LAKES ON
SUNDAY. THIS WILL LEAD TO SNOW OF 1 TO 4 INCHES IN THE NORTHERN
ROCKIES AND PARTS OF THE NORTHERN PLAINS ON SATURDAY, AND LAKE
ENHANCEMENT WILL HELP CREATE SNOW DOWNWIND OF THE UPPER GREAT
LAKES THIS WEEKEND AS WELL.

AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH IS FORECAST TO STRENGTHEN IN THE FOUR
CORNERS REGION, AND A COLD FRONT WILL PASS THROUGH THE SOUTHERN
HIGH PLAINS ON SUNDAY. THESE FEATURES WILL HELP CREATE A SNOW
EVENT FOR THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN ROCKIES AND PLAINS ON SUNDAY
AND SUNDAY NIGHT. SNOW TOTALS OF 6 TO 10 INCHES ARE EXPECTED IN
THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE ROCKIES, BUT A SWATH OF SNOW OF 4 TO
6 INCHES IS CURRENTLY FORECAST EVEN FOR LOWER ELEVATIONS IN PARTS
OF NEW MEXICO AND THE TEXAS PANHANDLE. THE EXACT PLACEMENT OF THE
HEAVIEST SNOW IS UNCERTAIN, SO TO CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST

ACROSS EASTERN TEXAS AND INTO THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY ON
SUNDAY AS MOISTURE STREAMS IN.

WIDESPREAD COLD TEMPERATURES ARE FORECAST THIS WEEKEND; ON
SATURDAY THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE EAST OF THE ROCKIES. FORECAST

TENNESSEE VALLEYS AND SOUTHEAST, WITH 30S FOR HIGHS IN THE MIDDLE
MISSISSIPPI AND OHIO VALLEYS. MANY RECORD COLD MAXIMUM

FREEZE WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PLAINS, LOWER
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY, AND TENNESSEE VALLEY/SOUTHEAST WHERE IT HAS
NOT FROZEN YET THIS SEASON. ON SUNDAY, COLD TEMPERATURES WILL
SPREAD INTO THE ROCKIES AND HIGH PLAINS WITH COLD FRONTAL PASSAGES.
