..MORE SNOW FOR THE WESTERN U.S. THROUGH THE WEEKEND

ALTHOUGH PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS ACROSS THE WEST COAST ARE NOT
EXPECTED TO BE AS STEEP COMPARED TO THE LAST FEW DAYS, AN ACTIVE
PERIOD WILL STILL CONTINUE FOR THE REGION. HEAVY SNOW IS STILL
EXPECTED TO PERSEVERE THROUGH THE WEEKEND. WINTER STORM WARNINGS
REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS, WITH AN ADDITIONAL 1
TO 3 FEET OF SNOW POSSIBLE OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. AS THIS SECOND
STORM SYSTEM PUSHES EASTWARD ACROSS THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST,
PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS ACROSS CALIFORNIA ARE EXPECTED TO DECREASE
IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY BY SATURDAY NIGHT WHILE INCREASING
ACROSS THE CENTRAL GREAT BASIN AND INTERMOUNTAIN WEST.
SIGNIFICANT SNOW WILL OCCUR FOR THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN ROCKIES
AS WELL AS HIGHER ELEVATIONS IN THE FOUR CORNER REGION.

A MUCH COLDER AIRMASS HAS SURGED SOUTHWARD FROM CANADA BEHIND A
STRONG COLD FRONT, WITH TEMPERATURES ON THE ORDER OF 10 TO 20
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL ON FRIDAY FOR MANY AREAS. A WAVE OF LOW
PRESSURE DEVELOPING ON THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY SHOULD PRODUCE ENOUGH
ASCENT AND MOISTURE FOR A BAND OF LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW FROM THE
PLAINS TO THE TENNESSEE VALLEY THROUGH THIS EVENING. BY SATURDAY,
A CORRIDOR OF SNOW CAN BE EXPECTED ALONG THE TENNESSEE VALLEY TO
THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION. MANY OF THESE AREAS ARE CURRENTLY UNDER
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES.

WIDESPREAD WARM WEATHER AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT ALONG THE SOUTHERN
PLAINS TO THE MID-ATLANTIC/NORTHEAST CAN BE EXPECTED FOR TODAY. BY
SATURDAY, THE NORTHEAST AND MID-ATLANTIC WILL RETURN TO NEAR/BELOW
NORMAL TEMPERATURES, WHILE THE SOUTHEAST AND PARTS OF WEST AND
SOUTH TEXAS REMAIN WELL ABOVE NORMAL--WITH SOME TEMPERATURES
REACHING TO THE 90S IN DEEP SOUTH TEXAS NEAR THE MEXICAN BORDER.
THESE CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE INTO SUNDAY. EXPECT THE WESTERN
U.S. TO HAVE BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE WEEKEND.
